Why is it that the absolute best, 200k-word, life-ruining fanfics only reveal themselves past midnight, when I have responsibilities, alarms, and a fragile adult reputation to maintain the next morning?
Anyway. See y'all when I’m emotionally attached to fictional people and wildly unprepared for the morning.

⟶part2.
Just when you thought your life was about to end at seventeen years old, spending your last moments on daydreaming in the cold cell of the Skybox, you got sent to the ground. From the moment your shoe soles touched the damp soil of the forest, you felt like you could finally start all over again. Be who you never had the chance to be. You knew you couldn't back away into the corner. Not again. You desired to prove yourself. Prove that you could be way more than a meaningless, poor girl, who has no control over her pathetic life.
Living in the camp with the 100 other teenagers was like a whole new world. The days so full of life, nature all around, being surrounded by so many people - it all made the spark in your eyes come back, after months of thinking it was gone for good.
Others would describe you as a damn ray of sunshine walking around the camp, your kindness being straight up contagious. Everyone was greeted by your radiant smile when they walked by. Anyone who was in any kind of a struggle could count on your immediate, purely selfless helpful hand. It was natural to you. To be good to people. You knew world was harsh enough, so the least you could do, was try to make it a better place for those around you.
Would some people deem you foolish and naive?
Maybe.
But not Bellamy.
He was the only one who has never made you feel belittled about who you were. He adored you. Your laughter, your doe eyed look, your endearing to him awkwardness. The way he cared for you, even made you feel flustered at times. Damn it, he was practically your guardian angel, following you around like a shadow.
•
The sun had already started hiding behind the horizon when it was your turn to get in position to guard the gates of the camp. The air still smelt like wet wood after hours of rainfall, and your brown knee boots had gotten all muddy as you made your way to the gate.
You walked up to Harper, who passed you the rifle with a sigh.
„Have fun."
You scoffed at her sarcastic remark as she walked away. It was real peaceful lately, so keeping the watch has gotten pretty boring. But someone's got to do it. You adjusted the weapon in your hands, gripping it confidently, just the way Bellamy had taught you. He insisted on training with you more and more. And you couldn't deny that having those kind of abilities, did make you feel kinda badass.
„Whatcha gonna do when I'm not around to come and save you, huh? Gotta know your stuff."
He repeated with a smile during trainings, while both of you knew exactly that he indeed would always come and save you.
You got in position, and were ready for the upcoming stretching out hours of staring into the trees. Your focus quickly shifted to how magical the sunset looked right now. The sun was slowly hiding behind the mountains, illuminating the whole palette of colors in the sky. Earth really was everything and more you have ever dreamed of. Even moments as small as that one, made you smile to yourself.
Completely lost in your thoughts, you practically jumped when a whistle suddenly came from behind your back.
„Hell of a view we got here...”
You turned around to see Thomas. One of the boys you have seen around the camp. He was hard to not be seen to be honest, taking how loud and outgoing he was.
You smiled to him, and nodded, before turning your gaze back to the breath-taking landscape before you. Assuming that was what he was getting at. Oblivious to the fact that your body was what his eyes were really lingering on…
„Right? I feel like no matter how much time will pass from arriving here, I will always be watching sunsets with amazement...”
He slowly started approaching you. If you turned around to see his face, you would be met with a look of confusion. Because that obviously wasn't the response he was expecting.
„Oh. Yeah, right, right...”
He mumbled, visibly not as fascinated by this wonder of nature as you.
He took a deep sigh, coming closer, taking in your soft face.
„So...you stuck on watch all by yourself again? I saw you yesterday too. That's lame, they could assign you some company. It must be getting a bit lonely, huh?”
He asked with a grin. And maybe if you directed your gaze back at him a few seconds earlier, you would catch the way his eyes travelled from up to down your body, ogling you.
But you didn't. You just laughed and answered a bit shyly. Yet still as politely as ever.
„No, really, it's cool. I like the quiet. Don't worry about my loneliness.”
„Nah, I really do worry.” He chuckled, as his voice got a bit lower. „But...I know a thing or two about preventing loneliness though...”
„Oh yeah?" You asked with a small smile, still a bit confused at why he suddenly was talking to you in such a friendly way.
„Yeah. Said you like the quiet, huh? Well, you got lucky, cause I know the most serene place around here. Quiet plus zero loneliness. Just me…What do you say? You up for an adventure, hm?” Something in his eyes glimmered when he said that.
You narrowed your eyebrows. The sudden warm invitation threw you off guard, especially since it was the first time you two exchanged more than two words. You chuckled awkwardly, and decided to agree. What the hell, why would you pass on discovering another cool spot and getting to know someone new? You promised yourself - no more backing into the corner.
„Perfect then. Meet me by the gate. Tomorrow, 10 pm.”
He murmured smoothly as he slowly started walking back into the camp. His smug grin somehow got even more cocky than before.
You couldn't even fully process what just happened, because right after being left alone, you heard heavy footsteps getting closer to you.
This time you didn't even need to turn around to know who it was.
„Hey."
You greeted Bellamy, looking up to him with a warm smile, once he was close enough for his shoulder to easily brush against yours. He said nothing, as he kept his head slumped down, loading up his own rifle. After a good while, a low sigh was heard from him, before he eventually spoke up.
„Don't talk to him.” He mumbled, his hands and eyes still focused on the bullets he was loading up. „He's a dick.”
You turned your face to him with a puzzled look. It wasn't a stern order, like the ones he throws left and right to anyone else around the camp. But it wasn't just a light suggestion either. Even if his tone stayed calm, as if he was talking about the weather, the words he uttered were nothing of that casual nature.
„Excuse me?" You scoff.
Silence responded.
„I can act and think for myself. Would you just stop bossing me around?”
He finally looked up to you, letting out a big sigh again.
„Oh please. It's not like I'm giving you orders…”
„You literally just did."
„No I didn't.”
„Don't talk to him.” You mimicked his deep, husky voice, which made him roll his eyes. „It sure sounded like an order from where I stand.”
He clenched his jaw. Well, you got him there.
„I’m just trying to provide some...clarity."
„You're trying to...what?" You cut him off with another scoff. Your brows were frowned in confusion for so long, your face muscles stared to ache. Because what the hell was he going on about?
„You heard me."
„What? He was just being nice."
„Trust me, he wasn't.”
His muttered out, holding eye contact for a while, as if he tried to send you some kind of a message, just with that serious look on his face. He quickly dropped his gaze back down, when he realized that you, in fact did not get the silent message that he had been trying to convey.
Bellamy was never an expert at communicating his feelings. Especially feelings as strong as the ones he felt for you. And at that moment, as strong as the anger towards that little prick, whose intentions surely weren't as pure as your mind made them out to be.
With a deep sigh, he called out your name. „Just…tell me...” He murmured, not sure how to approach the awkward subject. You looked up to him from underneath your eyelashes, still irritated at his plain rudeness towards the boy, and for acting so odd towards you too. But, gosh, you couldn't deny the way your stomach reacted when your name left his lips. In a tone way more gentle than the one you were arguing with a few seconds ago. „What did he want?”
„He just asked if keeping watch alone wasn't getting too lonely. We talked a bit, he suggested he could show me some nice, quiet place tomorrow. Serene, he said even. He was very nice. Sure, he is a bit cocky, but I think you shouldn't call him names, Bell.”
Damn it. Bellamy felt his heart flutter, hearing the way you viewed the situation. It was so... you. The way you immediately defended Thomas, believing in his good intentions, despite everything.
And…the way you used that nickname…
Bell. No one besides Octavia ever dared to called him that. Yet it always rolled so effortlessly, so sweetly off your tongue.
He snapped out of those thoughts when the meaning of your words fully sinked in.
Serene place. Also known as just a damn make out spot. And it seemed like you had absolutely no idea...
A new wave of anger at that jackass overflowed him. It was obvious how Thomas was. A filthy player, constantly seeking a new girl to entertain him, until he eventually got bored of her. The thought of him even getting close to you, made him want to break his jaw.
He shook his head slowly, now standing directly in front of you. He didn't want to startle you, with how stern he was being about this. So when he spoke up again, he was calmer, and an octave quieter.
„Listen, I know you always see the best in people, I know. But he...he wasn't just being nice out of the blue. Do you know why he asked you to go to some serene place?” He speaks slowly, trying to make you understand where he's coming from.
He was just met with pure cluelessness painted across your face. So he continued.
„It's like a slang talk, someone around here came up with this bullshit...It's basically a code for going into the wild, to you know, have some fun...” He said gently, feeling a weird sensation in the pit of his stomach, as his words hanged in the air between you.
Your expression dropped from confusion to painful embarassment. The maroon color smoothly spreaded all over your cheeks. Oh gosh.
You cursed yourself for being so damn naive, so dumb, unaware, blind...
Being simply invisible your whole life, was something you had gotten used to, something you learned to accept. Truly. So processing a shameless request you just received, was insane to you.
You looked up to him, shaking your head in disbelief.
„God, I can’t believe I’m this stupid…”
The usual, vibrant smile of yours was gone now, exchanged by a frown and uneasiness in your body language. And he would be lying if he said it didn’t tug on his heartstrings.
„Hey, stop that…you just didn’t know...”
„Yeah, I didn’t know! As always! That’s the thing!”
The desperate words escape your lips, as if they were building up inside you for way too long. Why you? Why were you always the one feeling like the smallest, dumbest person in the room? Why couldn’t you catch a cue that painfully obvious?
Being so inexperienced has always been something you cursed yourself for. It made you feel like a damn child in comparison to everyone else, who considered hook up a normal Tuesday activity.
And now? This innocence was just casually used against you. It was pathetic. It had got to be one of the most disasterous first romantic encounters possible.
Bellamy could easily sense that something about that situation bugged you way too much than it normally should. It almost seemed like it wasn’t only the boorish flirting of the boy that made you this uneasy. It was something more.
God, he hated that imbecile, who put you in such an uncomfortable position. You, the sweetest thing this Earth was ever graced with, looking so lost. He couldn’t stand that.
He sighed, taking another step towards you. He hated seeing the light in your eyes drowning under a sudden wave of gloom. His palm gently rested upon your slumped shoulder, as his first instinct was to try and provide you some comfort.
You sighed, trying not to nuzzle further into his touch, like a pathetic, touch starved cat.
„Now he’s gonna tell his friends, and now everyone’s gonna think I’m a slut-”
You started your nervous rambling, but he didn’t even let you finish.
Those words sounded so riddiculus coming from your mouth that he couldn’t hold back a chuckle, as he shook his head. His thumb slowly began it’s journey of rubbing up and down the sleeve of your shirt.
„Hey, hey relax. I can promise you, no one is thinking that. You will just turn down that hell of an offer, and crush this pervert’s ego, yeah?”
You sigh and nod your head, trying to regain your composure after embarassment got the best of you.
„Just forget Thomas and his bullshit. I told you, he’s just a fucking dick. Besides, I can just go talk some sense into him-”
You shook your head when you caught how his expression hardened. You knew exactly what he meant by those words. He never had a problem delivering some good punches in a good cause. Especially if the cause concerned you.
„No, don’t. I gotta just cancel this…thing. It was just some lame flirting, not something to beat a guy up for…”
„Not in my judgement.”
You gave him a meaningful stare, that communicated a clear „cut it out”. He obeyed, as always.
„Okay, got it.”
He growled. He always felt a sense of responsibility over you. You were his sweetheart. But despite how delicate you were, how sweet, he knew you weren’t just a helpless girl. You were capable of looking after yourselft. You were smart, intelligent, sharp. He knew it all. And now, he knew you had to learn how to take that matter in you own hands. You had to deal with your first pickup artist.
„But just know that if he bothers you again, I’ll be obligated to step in, doll.”
•
You slowly made your way towards the group of boys, who were chatting loudly, sitting around the fire. After rehearsing what you were gonna say to Thomas about a thousand times, you built up the courage to go up to him and sort out the awkward misunderstanding.
You turn around, to catch Bellamy’s gaze for the last time. He was just a few meters behind you, leaning against a tree with a small encouraging smile. Yes, he agreed to let you handle this by yourself, but that didn’t mean he couldn’t be your emotional support, right?
„I’ll be near. Just in case you decide he deserves a punch after all.” - he said.
He gave you a reassuring nod when he caught the unsure look in your eyes, searching for his own.
You indeed were bad at talking to boys, and you got even more assured in that statement today. A shy, flustered mess - that’s what you were.
And Bellamy? He watched it all with a small smirk on his lips, and a painfully warm feeling in his chest. Not taking his eyes off his sweetheart for even a moment.
When you finally walked away from the boy, you immediately rushed back to Bellamy.
All you wished for in that moment, was for the ground to swallow you up. Your stomach was still knotted in nerves from the confrontation. The redness on your cheeks didn’t even fade away yet when you reached Bellamy’s side.
A wide smile bloomed on his freckled face as soon as you turned to face him. He looked almost proud. Despite your shyness, you managed to confidently stand on business.
„You did good.”
A warm murmur, in that deep tone of his, resounded just above your head when he squeezed you to his side.
And in that moment, you could have sworn that his lips reverently kissed the crown of your hair.
