#beta espeon

I can now share the full artwork I created for LostDex: A Beta Pokémon Fanzine (@thelostdex)! My artwork depicts beta Espeon and beta Leafeon for the beta Eeveelutions page of the zine. Both Espeon and Leafeon are inspired by sprites that appeared in a demo (from before the release of Gold and Silver).

I almost didn’t draw beta Espeon, but it’s got a lot of anatomical differences from the final design we’re used to.  They’re all kind of subtle though.  It’s a thicker, stumpier creature, you could argue that the sprite is just less refined but I like to think that it’s beefy.  Regular Espeon is a very lithe, elegant cat, while this one has more Garfield in it.  And the tails split at the base instead of halfway down the length.  I think by yokai rules that makes it older?

A wild beta Espeon appeared!

This is something I doodled while figuring out my interpretation of beta Espeon for the LostDex zine. This drawing of beta Espeon is mostly inspired by one of its demo sprites from before Gold and Silver, when it was yellow in color and had two distinct tails.
