I’m so worried my baby (betta) has fin rot or some sort of fungus but I can’t tell. He’s got giant white spots appearing over his fins that are slowly spreading and I’ve looked it up and I can’t find anything like it. Hes also a crown tail but the it still doesn’t look like examples of fin rot I’ve found for them. He’s still coming to greet me every time I walk past or say goodnight to him or wants to show me a new “trick”. He plays/flares when I do enrichment time with a mirror toy. He loves his food and does his little begging routine everyday, sometimes I overfeed him but I can normally tell when I do because he’ll be a little bloated and I’ll have him fast for a day or two. He’s been making big bubble nest underneath the almond leaves that are floating in his tank. He’s doing everything that indicates he’s happy and the guys at my local aquarium shop said given all of that he may just be changing colours naturally but I can’t find an example of that which looks similar either.
Photos are from before I added almond leaves which is why the water is a more clear colour. I’ve done a clean, added more floating plants for some more variety and done two rounds of almond leaves over the last two months but the white colour is only spreading. He does live with two small otocinculs as a mini cleaning team but they all stay out of each other’s way and they aren’t sick either so I’m pretty sure it’s not the water quality either. I tested it last week and my levels were all the same as they usually are.
If anyone could tell me anything they think it might be and if I should do anything about it I would be very very grateful.
If you’re wondering his tricks basically just involve him finding a plant to do what I can only describe as a handstand in and he’ll hang vertically face down for a couple of seconds before reorienting himself and then looks at me and does it again. Like a kid who just learned how to do a handstand in the pool. I love him.
