it took me multiple listenings, interspersed throughout months, to fully appreciate frank ocean’s new album. not everything in it is for me, but i fully admire the poetry of it.

self control was the first one to grip me, and it remained so for a while, but this whole album is beautiful and multilayered, versatile and contains some of the best lyrics i’ve heard in a while.

just go listen to frank ocean he’s one of the best making music today.

What to read after watching Beyoncé’s ‘Lemonade’

“Lemonade” is not simply another “he done me wrong” album or video. The relationship at the heart of the lyrics is a Trojan horse, opening to the shores of black womanhood as healing and salvation.

It’s also obvious that Beyoncé and her collaborators have combed through some college syllabi and taken a few trips to the bookstore. “Lemonade” is basically a video version of Black Feminist Lit 101.
