MAKERLABS
by Bicicleta Sem Freio
Founded in 2013, the 42,000 sq ft @MakerLabs is Vancouver's largest "makerspace" with communal work areas including a wood shop, metal shop, computer-controlled router table, laser cutters, sewing machines, and an electronics area. In addition to the creativity encouraged within the walls, MakerLabs' outer walls have also served as an important hub for the @VanMuralFestival and the variety of artists it brings together. In 2016 for the inaugural festival Brazilian artist/designers Douglas and Renato, aka Bicicleta Sem Freio—literally translated "Bicycle Without Brake"—brought their colorful rock n'roll-inspired imaginations to this E Cordova St wall. @bicicletasemfreio/

The homies @bicicletasemfreio rocked this for @blinkcincinnati and I think the mural feels the same way I do about the trucks. #RestStopEdit #BicicletaSemFreio #bicyclewithoutbrakes @justkidsofficial #justkidsofficial #blinkcincinnati #cincinnati #cincinnatistreetart #streetartcincinnati #sonya7ii #sonyimages #voightlander15mm #streetartspringbreak #streetartspringbreakroadtrip2 (at Cinncinati, Ohio)

“CATIRA”
by Bicicleta Sem Freio
A dance of Brazilian folklore, the beat of The Catira is marked by the beat of the feet and hands of the dancers. Typically a dance of the interior of Brazil it is performed mostly by ranchers and farmers. For the inaugural 2015 The Unexpected mural festival Bicicleta Sem Freio brought a bright splash of their native Brazil to Garrison Street in downtown Fort Smith, Arkansas. Translating to English as “Bicycles Without Brakes” Bicicleta Sem Freio is as apt a description as any of the two designer / illustrators who met at university and “just wanted to have fun, create, draw and animate whatever came into their minds.” They admit that art, design, and rock ‘n’ roll—and drawings of lots of girls—sounds cliché, but say it’s simplest and most honest way to describe them and the results work well enough to have takend the two around the world, sometimes to the most ‘Unexpected’ places. @bicicletasemfreio @unexpectedfs
