Honestly I want a scream modern au. I want one where stu googles how to best kill someone and billy goes "are you fucking stupid, the police can see your search history!" and Stu just goes "Duh, I'll just delete it.", completely unaware of how little that changes about the outcome and Billy just asks himself why Stu is his boyfriend and partner in crime.

stu (and billy, by extension of being right next to the two of you when the invitation was given) had invited you over to his house one weekend; he wanted to hang out with you again after seeing how you’d reacted to him being so enamored with horror movies. usually the others at school thought the pair were weird, strange and off-putting. but you knew the feeling, so you’d hit it off with them immediately.

and you had a surprise for them! you’d just bought what promised to be a really cool game; a horror point-and-click about a slasher killing a babysitter. heavily based on the halloween movies, you figured, but without the copyright. and it was in 8-bit, with the absolute coolest soundtrack.

when you got to stu’s house (with billy of course at your side, eyes leaving you so so briefly every few moments), you slid the disk into his parents’ computer, watching it boot up. you, in the desk chair, and the boys at each of your sides. you caught them with wide eyes, enamored, eager to see the next big thing that happened.

“oh! right there, knife her, man!” stu cheered, watching as you clicked the corresponding arrow; the two of them whooping and hollering when the player character slashed the babysitter up, splashing pixelated blood across the screen.

“can i go next?” billy asked with a broad, mischievous grin as your victory message popped up on the screen. he and stu shared a look you couldn’t really figure out, but that seemed harmless enough.

“oh, and then me, dude!” stu chortled, grinning ear to ear, leaning in closer to you. their eyes were bright like a child on christmas morning, eager to see how many bloody scenes they could play out.

you each unlocked new scenes throughout the night, and by sunrise, you’d beat the whole game.

“man…. this is way better than psycho…” you heard stu yawn as day broke into the window behind the three of you.

excited by the prospect of expanding the boys’ horizons, you went over to your overnight bag, pulling out two more things. books; horror novels, which you loved so dearly. though the boys weren’t really known for their activity with literature. “if you like that game, i think you’d really like these—…” you offered up, the boys turning to look at you as a final congratulatory cutscene finished playing on the screen.

they shared a look. “alright.. but only if you read them to us,” stu confirmed. you had a feeling you’d be in for a few more all-nighters at this rate. and you were so excited for the prospect.

if you were to keep track, this would be the fourth eye roll in this conversation alone. but you're not, and you're still blinking up at him with dopey eyes and unknowing confusion. "aren't you excited?" you readjust your grip on the pink handbag you pulled out of your closet for the occasion. "it's going to be fun! why aren't you wearing pink?"

he settles into the wooden back of your kitchen chair, fiddling with a lighter that he's already flicked on a few times. "have you ever seen me wear pink, kid?"

you pause, contemplating the inquiry before shaking your head. "but it's barbie. you're supposed to wear pink."

billy sucks at his teeth, a stray strand of hair slipping from its previous hold in strong gel and dangling over his dark eyes. his brows pinch, as if pulled by together by some invisible string, and worry lines sprout over his forehead. "do you want me to take you there or not?"

your lips immediately downturn, shoulders dropping with defeat. "well, i guess if you don't want to go, i can take someone else with me. i already bought the tickets, so i don't want it to go waste, but-"

billy hauls himself up from the chair, clucking his denial before he throws an arm over your shoulders. "shut up, already, won't you? i'm taking you, and that's final. and don't whine and cry 'bout it, cause you're getting what you want, aren't you? c'mon, baby, cheer up."

billy really liked your style from the get-go. small town, not very many people had the same vibe as you. with your choppy, spiky mullet, that you’d even dyed your favorite color. dark clothes, piercings, even. you’d moved there recently enough that people were still debating what your name was, and whether they were scared of you, attracted to you, or even both.

so naturally you were invited to a killer halloween party, and naturally it was one billy and stu would be attending. of course stu thought it’d be funny to go as ghostface; and he’d managed to rope billy into a matching costume. the two floated around the party, getting laughs and gasps when stu would startle someone. billy carried the mask at his side as he slipped away from the main group, into the kitchen, with all the alcohol — and you, of course. his eyes dragged over you appreciatively, the smallest of smirks at the corner of his mouth.

you nodded at him, gesturing to the wide variety of alcohol across the little marble island in the middle of the kitchen. “pick your poison,” you joked, getting a small snort from him. he moved over, setting the mask face-up on the counter. “oh, hey — that’s a cool mask,” you pointed out, gesturing with your red solo cup to it. he looked up at you, grinning appreciatively.

“cool mullet,” he responded back; it sounded as if he almost didn’t say it, like he’d been thinking of leaving instead of talking, but something had convinced him to say. he gave your choice of outfit a bit longer of a look before he poured himself something to drink. he seemed to appreciate the fact that it was just the two of you. in fact, he was about to say something else when stu barged into the kitchen, interrupting him.

“billy, cmon man, you’re missing it — there’s literally — cmon!” stu said between gasping laughs, stumbling over himself to reach his friend, grabbing his arm.

billy managed to pick up the mask and sort of frisbee it over to you before he started getting dragged away. “alright alright, fine,” he said to stu, and then to you — “keep it. see ya around?”

“oh— yeah, sure! thanks,” you held the mask in your fingers, brushing your thumb over the smooth surface. there was a dark stain on it, small, like a tiny little red droplet of something. whatever billy had poured himself wasn’t red.
