“Now, seeing as you’re an influential type around here, I wouldn’t ever want any of my boys going and drawing a dirty mag staring you.”
He took a long drag from his cigarette and put on his best sympathetic face.
“ Of course, the only way to guarantee that would be throwing a bit of cash our way. Help us keep the lights on at the studio, nothing terribly fancy. Just a modest sum, anything you see fit to keep your name and likeness… unbesmirched.”
Searching for a Lamb - Intro/Starter
May 1912
When I arrived to Columbia was just as queer as how I arrived. Even through the blatant lies that stem from their..newfound...beliefs, they don't hesitate to call it Heaven-- the twisted people who live up here. They believe that it's something new, something unheard of and completely their own; a miracle that could only be forged by God--living like this in the sky. I thought so too, until I remembered that all men are born with a brain, and a choice to use them. The meaning of having your head in the clouds is given new meaning after early this morning. I have not been here more than ten hours, and I near witnessed a stoning in the town square. Though I get the feeling that this is only the beginning, the debt collector relayed to me my payment yesterday evening: retrieve the girl, wipe away the debt.
I came unarmed; not by choice and had to get used to the idea of using vigors quick, which, I still haven't by the way. I would be lying if I said that I wasn't worried about the police here. They seemed to have made priority of demonizing me, calling me the "False Shepherd". Whatever their reason, I have reasons of my own. If this is what it takes, so be it. The Lutece man says she's in the tower, locked away high above. My ears ring the closer I get, whether it's from the vigors or the sonic roar of battle with Columbia, I'm sure I'll find out. One thing I've learned; if you don't draw first, you don't get to draw at all.
