Childhood in Date Everything
This is something that has been rattling around in my mind for a while. We know thanks to Mikey Transaction from the DLC that at least some objects are not a specific object/concept's anima when they are born (since there is a discussion with his three kids about what they want to be when they grow up). But in Bobby Pin's arc we see a picture of her family which seem to all be bobby pins, Teddy was a child and grew up with the player character, and other objects mention their families in the factory they were built in (Freddy) or the warehouse where the player character bought them from (Kristoff).
I have mentioned in another post about the objects that it seems to be hit or miss if someone's anima encompasses all of that object (like how Dorian is all the doors) or if they're tied to an individual iteration of that object (like Bobby and Rebel). It seems that the objects who have a single anima encompassing all of their objects either don't bring up their family at all, or only mention one of their parents - and when they do it's a predecessor of their modern form (Stefan's mom being an chiminea) or what created them (Dirk's mom being a loom). We know that at least some of the objects do keep in contact with their parents because Fantina mentions going to visit her parents in her arc.
So far the options seem to be:
Parents are two entirely different objects/concepts (Mikey is a microtransaction, the mother of his children is a star) so the object you will be is not determined yet.
Your parents and family are all the same object and your anima is tied to one specific iteration of that object. Mostly likely with a finite lifespan just like a human.
Your anima is spread out over all the iterations of your object and your parents are either a much earlier version of your object or the objects that originally made you.
Volt is outside of this list because he was sparked (pun intended) into existence by Eddie. Now I can't remember if I mentioned it in a different post already, but Eddie specifically (yes, this is a brainrot post) I think falls into that 3rd category and I headcanon that his parents are telegraph lines and a dynamo. I have my reasons but I'll save it for a different post.
However, I am starting to waffle on this because if you flat-out ask Eddie in the game how old he is, he will ask in return "How old is the house?". From Teddy, we know that some objects are children when people buy them, but I don't feel like this is a norm and I headcanon that children's toys are normally the age of the people who are intended to use them. I don't think it makes sense for Eddie to have been a child/infant when he became the anima of the house's breaker box considering that job includes regulating and filtering all the electricity that comes into the house, but he outright says he's the same age as the house - which is making me think one of two things are happening here:
Some objects grow and mature really fucking fast (since Skylar mentions she's having to do time dilation stuff to let the PC talk to the objects) or
Volt isn't unique in the aspect of manifesting fully grown.
I like option 2 for this because it seems to make the most sense to me. Now perhaps under normal circumstances it still takes two parent objects to create the new anima this way. It could also be that a splinter of the overarching anima is created - which makes the most sense for objects like Wyndolyn or Dorian. Eddie I feel is an object that is unique to the house's breaker box like how Rebel is specifically the rubber duck the PC buys.
Since Eddie can't very well be as old as the house and have been a child while acting as the breaker box (or I wouldn't like to think so), I think that Eddie - just like Volt - simply came into existence fully grown. I still fully think Eddie has parents or two objects he considers parents, but I think I like the idea of certain types of utility objects genuinely just spawn fully grown from the aether.
Did I think entirely too deeply about this? Yep, probably. Did I think too deeply about this because of fanfiction that I am writing? Also yes. Will this actually end up being brought up in that fanfiction? Probably not, but it was still interesting to consider the dynamic.
