Hello! Itās been a while but Iām finally finished with the school semester! I had a really successful year with my assignments and wanted to share them here. :)
Minus a couple because they donāt fit in this post, hereās the stack!
I Got Bored So I Designed The Rest of the Naturals Series (Which One Is Your Favorite Design)
JLB CONSIDER THIS MY OFFICIAL APPLICATION TO DESIGN THE REST OF THE NATURAL SERIES DELUXE EDITIONS
Okay so I really wanted to see what these rest of the book series would look like if JLB decides to publish the whole series in the Deluxe Edition Format.
This took such a long time but Iām really proud of myself š. Iām hoping that JLB makes the whole series hardcover.
I also designed the Naturals Novella (itās only available as an ebook š)
For my illustration assignment, I was tasked with redesigning a book of choice. I selected Convenience Store Woman by Sayaka Murata, a story that explores themes of individuality, societal pressure, and self-acceptance.
Really happy with the end result! š
"Oh Father! Jeweled shoes!!!"
Nessarose, Elphaba's younger sister. In the play Elphaba is essentially allowed to attend Shiz under the condition of looking after Nessa. Their father, the Minister of Munchkinland, is very protective of Nessa and doting (in contrast to Elphaba who he is very cruel to. In the books they have a third sibling, but he doesn't really factor into books 1 &2 so I don't know much about him).
In Nessarose we can see how the Shiz uniform is "supposed to" look, and gather an idea of how the supporting cast's uniform would be based on. Navy/mid blues, the style similarities, etc.
Quick Note: having disability rep in stories/theater is good....... BUT this is one of those cases where it's not really positive representation. Instead Nessa "can't" be played by a wheelchair user, the script eventually calls for her disability to be "cured" by the Red Shoes (Ruby Slippers) and for her to stand/walk later in the production for her villain arc. Also lines like "beautifully tragic" and a lot of her stage-time/ role in the story is devoted to her wanting to be "normal", and the majority of her relationships (romantic and familial) are based on guilt and pity. Sooooo.... we've still got an awfully way long way to - I have heard of more recent productions (of other plays) and how they have incorporated their actor's disabilities into the show in creative and very successful ways. ASL in a production of Hamlet, Michael ArdenāsĀ Spring Awakening and Next to Normal being some examples.
edit: deepest apologies I am stupid and learning. Thank you @lillyjen!

[ id: a doodle of a cover redesign for the bookĀ āThe Reckless Kindā, where a pair of hands hold up a pig in a crown. /end id ]
my book club was NOT a fan of this one, so i redesigned the cover to more accurately represent what the book was RLY about.
Book Redesign:Ā
āAgriscience: Fundamental & Applicationsā
Author : L. Devere Burton & Elmer L. Cooper
The project itself was the final assignment for 2018 class. This book raises the theme of nature and its contents, especially in the two chapters I chose; animals and their habitats. The wildlife is related to something natural, greeny and I tried to applied this to the illustration I chose. With a āsketchyā illustration, the natural pencil strokes made a ālooseā and ācalmā impression. I also added the vintage feel to this book, something old but classy and timeless. You can see from the color palette I chose, like brown, green and a little purple, like an old book from your grandparent's attic.Ā
I really like how this book turned out because the style was clearly not in my comfort zone. But after a lot of assistance, all my hard work pays off beautifully!
