— “It was my request. When I saw the Empire closing in, I sent you both away for your own safety, far apart from each other.”
— “Where is she? What’s her name?”
— “If I were to tell you, Darth Vader could get that information from your mind and use her as a hostage. Not yet, Luke. When it’s time…”
Ben and Skywalker fade back into the mists. Luke looks after them, his face at once ennobled and fearful.
𝐆𝐑𝐑𝐌: “I don't care what Lucas says, I will never believe that Darth was meant to Luke's father from the outset, or that the romantic pairing was always supposed to be Leia and Han (it is plainly Luke and Leia)... and damn it, Han shoots first!” —bia Livejournal
When George Lucas made Star Wars: Ep.IV – A New Hope, the story did not yet include the idea that Darth Vader was Luke’s father; that twist only took shape while writing Star Wars: Ep.V – The Empire Strikes Back. The romantic direction also evolved—early concepts leaned toward a Luke/Leia relationship before the narrative ultimately paired Leia with Han. In addition, the 1977 theatrical version showed Han Solo firing first in the cantina scene.
