A long, long time ago (It was literally on 2024 the year of our lord), my first ever fanfic of Sylus is about a Reader who became his bodyguard (begrudgingly) for only a span of 3 years and he mostly spends his time off time trying to know her better by being in places she frequent too conveniently.
He isn't a yandere here or anything. He really just can't find anything about you (for a good reason) and it makes him frustrated HAHA
Not a rant but more of an introspective since my work is calling for me again and there are deadlines I need to meet 🥀
I originally took writing as a hobby since I am now pursuing a career in illustration despite the threat of being replaced by robots. Funny enough, I am making it work and through it, I met new peers who also made the same jump that I did.
Anyways, I am 1.5 years into writing if I did my math correctly. I like to believe I am becoming better in it and while I am not a popular author, I am happy to meet new people here with principles I like to follow, principles such as supporting fellow writers and artists no matter how many engagements they have.
I supposed I am writing this because I am beginning to feel the challenges of working with Stay A Little Longer, Miss Witch. Maybe I am just being a perfectionist, and partially because I don't want people to come for my head if I can't write the story properly considering Reader is deaf.
I asked myself why am I going up and beyond for my fics again and this question becomes louder when people asked if I am being paid to do this yet, I find myself telling them that I enjoy the hard work I put in for this.
Although, the answer I tend to omit is that I am writing for someone out there. It is a weird thought in my head but a little voice is telling me I need to keep writing since these words need to reach someone out there who is looking for it.
Anyways, I apologize for the tangent. I think I am just a little tired. I still need to draw and prepare social media announcements and other stuff.
Never regret the day I purchased this from the bookstore given this artbook is hard to find. I kept rereading Witch Hat Atelier recently and I realized how much it influenced me on my creative works.
It made me respect Kamome Shirahama more, given her work has been running for 9 years. Many have criticized why this work only has 90+ chapters despite it being published back 2016 but reading it made me understand how she wanted to take her time to flesh out everything and to give proper representation. Each character is loved, respected, in a world where there is no black and white.
I hope more people would pick it up and keep up with it even after the anime has aired.
I have been quite busy with work the entire day that when I opened my inbox in AO3 after 192380214 years, your comments @blessdunrest REALLY REALLY SURPRISED ME LIKE OMG, EACH CHAPTER!!?? I will be honest I started writing that work because I REALLY REALLY WANT A READER who initially wanted to 1v1 Sylus HAHAHAHA
I will be writing snippets here and there while I figure out how to rewrite that one! I miss writing banter so much
Bork!!! Lovely moot, helloooo. Would adore learning more about these wips below :D
Kitty, Kitty, Kitty
No One Writes To The Colonel
Ordinary Days
Hey hey @blessdunrest! Thank you for stopping by! Saw your message and I got all excited when you asked. Long message ahead because I want to sneak in snippets here and there!
Kitty, Kitty, Kitty
This idea has been sitting with me ever since last year since I started writing but not much Sylus content was released back then so I had to let it sit.
It is an AU of a Cat Hybrid! Reader who works in the police force and a Dragon Hybrid! Sylus who is clearly a criminal but her superiors refuse to arrest him for reasons (Mostly because they rather have him than deal with the fallout of what could happen once they remove the head honcho who at least negotiates and gives them info.)
Their first meeting was actually hilarious that Sylus ended up designating himself as her CI even when she tells him off several times that she doesn't need his help.
Here is a snippet of their first meeting:
Miss hissy kitty is about to get a reality check on who sent that anonymous tip to your squad once all of you are back in the precinct and his grin only grew wider at the thought.
“So I'll give you two options, Sylus,” you continued, whispering harshly in his ear and he only chuckled, not making any move despite being pinned down by you, “Option one. You will let me cuff you or-”
Sylus’ grin seemed to grow wider, and he would have to check later with the twins if the cameras inside the warehouse are active so he could see your angry expression that all of his underlings fear so much.
“-Option two. Resist arrest, I’ll beat you up then you will let me cuff you.”
“Two. Not every day I get to be under one of Linkon’s Finest.”
Eventually, they fell into a certain routine and Reader learns to tolerate him until a certain operation, she ended up looking after a little cat hybrid with a terrible amnesia who may or may not have been from a laboratory funded by the government (The project they are running is similar to Project MKUltra.)
Their family moments were fun to write since Sylus managed to convinced said child to call him 'Papa', initially to get under your skin.
“Can I get a good kitty sticker?”
“You will if you promise to finish your vegetables.”
She stuck out her tongue at the sight of the broccoli in her papa’s hamburger steak (It is already perfect without it!), frowning but deciding to eat it anyways, knowing more good kitty stickers mean more snacks that you and her papa have placed in the highest shelf.
Still fleshing this concept out. I have always wanted to write found family with Sylus in it since his character just fits so well in this trope!
No One Writes to the Colonel
This one is rather interesting because while the title is based on an actual story, the plot I have in mind here is both Caleb and Reader always wanted to go to space (This is set prior to the Space Race and loosely inspired by it.)
Caleb's character is similar to Laika (The dog that the Russians sent to space) and I am thinking Reader is an eldritch being who may have forgotten she is one.
It starts with Gideon's POV where they all noticed that ever since they all stepped in the Academy, no one really writes to him from home and yet Caleb waits by the station together with them.
The idea is still bare bones, mostly because I am still reading books with sci-fi themes! (I have been trying to finish the Southern Reach trilogy and Hitchhiker's Guide!)
Yet he always comes with them by the train station, laughing with them and it is clear even after these years, Caleb is waiting for the mail master to finally call his attention and perhaps he knew the Colonel for so long he was able to catch the hint of disappointment in his gaze when the mail master just tipped his hat at him.
Who is the colonel waiting for?
This premise might change as times goes on though!
Ordinary Days
This one is another Deer Hybrid! Reader and Dragon Hybrid! Sylus fic. I posted a snippet of this but had to step back to figure out the A-Plot and B-Plot for it.
Mostly an Arknights AU but I put my own spin to it. Reader is a daughter of an acclaimed war hero that Sylus wants to be his ally especially the country is torn on choosing who to be their next leader so reader's dad can certainly tip the scale to his favor.
The dad really, really hates Sylus, mostly because even when he is a bastard child, he still grew up more privileged than the rest and the Royal Family had a hand with the death of Miss Deer's brother.
This series is mostly a combination of many things, people who just want to live ordinary lives, Sylus who also wants the same but burdened with his duties as the next potential leader of the country and experiencing first hand what is to be your average citizen with Reader as his guide.
Sylus isn’t one to back down on an opportunity and who would have thought? Your game involves who gets the most number of snails hiding in the paddies.
He will always remember your laughter when you spot him stuck in place and you are shameless really, having the audacity to push him towards the mud so the second time you did it, he was ready.
“Your highness, it wouldn’t do well if you always get one of your feet deep in the mud. Here, another lesson-”
This time, he made sure to grab and hold on to you tight the moment you pushed him, both of you crashing together.
I honestly want to write them all at once if I can but I'll get there. Thank you for being a supportive moot as always~! Just wanted to say I always love the fic recs you write and share with us!
