Does either mod have a favorite orangutan sanctuary/charity? It's nearly the anniversary of Terry Pratchett's death, and in his honor (and yours, since I've spent so much time on your blog recently) I'd like to donate some money to a good cause. Also, any tips on how to tell if a sanctuary is good or not? I admit I'm a little overwhelmed trying to find something :/
What an exciting honor! Orangutans are easily one of the greatest apes of all time, and its amazing that you want to support them. Personally, my favourite organization for orangutans is the Borneo Orangutan Survival Foundation, which you may know from the orangutan jungle school series. What makes this organization special to me is that they work on the front lines of conservation in deep and remote jungle to raise and rehabilitate orphaned orangutans with terrific success. They can always use donations, and you can even sponsor/adopt a specific orangutan baby that strikes your fancy.

As for captive orangutans Center For Great Apes is the only (ethical) sanctuary housing orangs and they could always use more support! You could also support reputable zoos that house orangutans.
The list of ways to determine an ethical sanctuary is quite long. Basically, check for accreditation by GFAS or NAPSA (NAPSA is the strictest primate sanctuary accreditation so their endorsement means alot but is not the end-all-be-all of ethics) check their socials and website for inappropriate opportunities such as feeding primates or holding/handling them, and if they are breeding or have many babies that's a red flag. Lastly, Google "whistle-blower + "facility name"" and see if there's any issue behind the scenes. After checking these things, you should have a good idea wether or not you want to support them.
