2022 NFL Draft Review
New Chicago Bears GM Ryan Poles completed his first NFL Draft in 2022. Who did he pick? What was his strategy? How did he grade?
2022 Chicago Bears NFL Draft Recap Let’s just say I was under-impressed by new Chicago Bears GM Ryan Poles with the way he handled the 2022 NFL Draft. His draft picks and his strategy were underwhelming at best. I understand he’s in a poor spot, taking over after a disastrous end to former GM Ryan Pace’s final season. Poles has a lot of work to do to get the Bears back in a good spot. Are the…

Braxton Jones and Cassandra Elworth Moodboard 🌸
@velasdiscourse
It was only yesterday, rain poured as cold winds said their last goodbyes before spring arrived. On this day, summer decided to appear unannounced but certainly not unwelcome. After a long day of classes, Cassandra raced out of the music department, greeted by a sudden wave of heat. What was it with the unpredictable weather? She couldn’t really complain since it was the perfect time to relax, bask in the sunlight. It allowed her to take a much needed break.
In the greenery near the entrance of campus, Cassandra threw her backpack on the grass, slowly removing her black cardigan and laid down in Savasana, in a red crop top. She could hear the voice of her mother in her head, scolding her for exposing herself to the sun and risk getting even more freckles on her body. Covering her face, shoulders and even her back, her mother never wasted a moment to remind her that they were a flaw, which made Cassandra want to embrace them even more. She was who she was. The freckles were a part of her, nothing could ever change that. So be it. She had no choice but to accept them, or at least try to, no matter what insecurities her mother seeded in her mind.
She tried to focus on her breathing and tune out all the noise around her. Students were rushing in and out of the building, but slowly, the noise began to dissipate. Only, her own voice was loud in her head. Diving into the depth of her mind, Cassandra lost herself to her thoughts, when the purpose was to relax and not the opposite. The past few months were rough: not being able to practice had an effect not only on her playing but on her mood. If only inspiration would hit her more often, she would be able to focus on her composing. However, playing and composing, one went with the other, and never without. In Cassandra’s dictionary, they were correlated and she couldn’t deny how badly it affected her. It was a sign of her own incompetence as a musician and that alone, motivated her to better herself. To use her emotions and make them her strength and not her weakness. She still had so much more to learn, so much room to grow.
Time. Only time will tell.
She slowly started to relax, knowing that being hard on herself wouldn’t get her anywhere. Reminding herself of the laws of attraction, she repeated her daily mantras multiple times until she found herself in a feigned state of inner peace. Why was she so unsettled? What was it that she had to prove? It was her impatience, the trait about herself she tried to work on the most. A fear loomed over her. The fear of… No. She didn’t want herself to fall into an abyss of self-doubt, spurred by the constant pressure and implicit chastisement of her parents. The brief memory of being encouraged to studiously practice, even as the growing calluses on her fingers began to bleed, made her shudder.
Disrupting her Savasana, Cassandra groaned, covering her face with her hands, feeling the heat seep into them. What she really needed was a cup of blackcurrant tea and some cuddle time with Téo. Just thinking about her little ball of fluff made her smile widely and a giggle escaped her. She guessed that Téo was the only boy for her. Propping herself on her elbows, her head fell as she arched her back, breathing the fresh air before she decided to make her way home. She opened her eyes and looked back. Aqua met ice blue. Never had she looked into eyes that… The handsome man with the voice of an angel, sitting under the tree, averted his gaze immediately. His face grew red almost instantaneously and he left his spot under the shade hastily. Why was it that he was… fleeing from her? Had she done something to… cause that? Now more than ever, she wanted to speak to the young man but again, why was she so curious? Curiosity was a flaw, right? Something that she would be reprimanded for and not complimented. Knowing that it wouldn’t be appreciated, she told herself not to contemplate the idea of approaching the man. Knowing how she was, she would definitely overthink it. Gathering her belongings and tying her cardigan around her hips, Cassandra overheard students yammering about a new program or… was it a competition? She wasn’t too sure. Something about a collaboration between students and so on. Unable to focus, she shook her head, knowing she would get to that the next day. She wanted to do anything to get that man out of her head. She had to remind herself.
He was just a stranger…

Sitting by the window, Téo leapt towards me, finding his way to my lap. He was asking for cuddles, rubbing his head against my arm, purring softly.
“I’m sorry, I’ve been keeping a secret from you, mon bébé…” I brought my fingers under his chin, scratching gently. His chocolate brown eyes closing slowly, sinking in the delight of the sensation while I drowned in my own thoughts. I don’t even know why I’m feeling this way, it didn’t really make any sense. I sighed looking down at him, recalling last week’s events.
It happened last Friday. The practice room was reserved until the door closed, which was at 10 pm. I exhausted myself that night, practicing Sibelius’ Valse Triste. Especially since I took all that time off recovering from tendonitis, I wanted to prove myself worthy of being part of the orchestra again. I couldn’t take all those looks of disdain. The calluses on my left hand were sore, a few of my fingertips bleeding a bit. Carrying my cello on my back, I walked down the hallway, noticing a few other students were their instruments and heading out just like I was. I had to wash the blood off my fingers first. On my way to the washroom, I heard a deep voice almost booming at the end of the hall, even though the door was probably closed. Quickly washing up, I gave in to my curiosity and went to explore, or more like, discover who the source of this voice was. They clearly should know that they would be stuck in the building if they didn’t leave now. I would inform them, whoever they were. But, the closer I got, the more captivated I was. His voice was so deep and haunting, yet angelic. It was dichotomous in the most intriguing way and I peeked through the door and bit my lip, muffling a soft gasp. Dark brown hair that almost seemed raven, half-closed icy blue eyes. Shivers ran up and down my spine. He was… beguiling. Tall and handsome.
He was in a world of his own, oblivious of my presence. Clearly entranced, I watched his eyelashes flutter shut against his cheek, as his tone grew lower than higher again. The control and manipulation of his vocal range was truly astonishing. I couldn’t interrupt him… wouldn’t. As the song came to a close, I quickly scattered away before he could see me watching him. That was so weird of me. It’s not like it would’ve been the first time I was caught but… I don’t know what came over me. What’s wrong with me?
Since then, my eyes have been searching for him, a sign of the man with that… enthralling voice. I didn’t know anything about him, his name, who he was and what he did… Was he even a student here? I caught him. The moment our eyes almost met, he averted them. It happened a few times and yet, he did the same thing. Again and again. Sigh. He clearly didn’t want anything to do with me… he wouldn’t even look me in the eye. I… didn’t get the chance to get to know anything about him. I guess I never will...
