22. A kiss that is leading to more, but is interrupted by a third party.
Stolen kisses and fleeting glances between sessions were never enough; they would never be enough. Brian and John were always discreet, only sneaking chaste, quick kisses when they knew no one else would see, never once daring to move any further where anyone could possibly see them or question their relationship. Always the professional relationship in public, Brian and John managed to keep a professional distance from one another while the others were around. John was Brian’s little secret, just as Brian was John’s.
Discretion, however, failed both of them.
John, Roger, Brian, and Freddie had spent hours in the studio working on their newest record, and the squabbling never grew any easier (or predictable). Freddie and Brian bickered over the pitch, while John and Roger exchanged poor words over rhythm and pace. They all agreed on one thing, and that was that they wanted a much-desired break for an hour or two. Despite the arguing and the ever climbing tension, John and Brian kept finding one another. Whether they caught quick glances between takes, or when Brian found any sort of excuse to sit next to John.
When Brian’s hand came to comfortably rest on John’s inner thigh, sliding further and further north as they sat, the heat in John’s cheeks became impossible to hide and his desire growing more and more apparent. By the time the four agreed on halting their progress for a brief moment, Brian and John were both so incredibly flustered they could hardly croak out a simple “yes” in agreement. They both nodded, watching as both Roger and Freddie took their mutual silence as a cue to leave. John stood to follow, however, he simply shut the door behind Freddie and Roger.
It didn’t take long for both Brian and John to completely fall apart. Neither one spoke at first, a mutual understanding ringing through the both of them as the met in the middle of the room, their lips instantly meeting in a hungry, heated kiss. John melted into Brian’s touch as Brian’s arms wrapped around him, keeping John locked perfectly in Brian’s arms.
Their kisses were sloppy, a clashing of teeth and tongue as Brian guided the two of them to an open chair, pulling away to seat himself before pulling John on top of him, firm hands planted tightly on John’s hips.
John was nestled perfectly in Brian’s lap, toned legs straddling Brian’s waist as they kissed, hot and needy. John’s fingers were already fumbling with the buttons of Brian’s shirt, skilled fingers pulling and tugging at the buttons as he exposed more of Brian’s chest.
It wasn’t until the floorboards squeaked at the frame of the door that John and Brian stopped, their heads instantly turning to find a familiar face studying them from the doorway, eyes wide.
“Freddie,” John was the first to speak, his soft voice hardly above a whisper, “How long have you been there?” It didn’t matter how long Freddie had been perched in the doorway; they’d been wrapped in their own world for long enough, and there was no escaping the truth which now blatantly ahead of them just as Freddie stood in the doorway.
“Long enough,” Freddie quipped, voice light, betraying any sort of disapproval or distaste. “It took you long enough.” Freddie flashed both Brian and John a toothy grin, crossing his arms in front of his chest.
“I thought you locked the door.” Brian hissed between his teeth, awkwardly adjusting his pants as John moved to sit next to him, allowing for the slightest amount of space between them. John waved a dismissive hand, looking anywhere but Brian. Anywhere but Brian.
“You don’t have to stop for me.” Freddie’s words caused chaos among the two, as John’s impossibly wide eyes seemed to grow even wider and Brian seemed to choke on the very air he was breathing, dissolving into a fit of coughs.
“Fred.” John’s cheeks were practically stained red, and Brian had gone quiet, trying to piece together the proper words to say. Both of their minds were running a mile a minute, stumbling and trying to find some sort of rational explanation either one could offer to Freddie, who hadn’t moved from his position in the door, thin figure still propped against the doorframe.
“Your secret’s safe with me, darlings. You needn’t worry,” Freddie turned to leave, pulling the door shut behind him. “Unless Roger or I want in, then I’ll certainly be the first to tell.” Freddie winked, another smile plastered against his cheeks as he shut the door behind him, leaving a disheveled Brian and John to piece themselves together.
