I started treating this stain on June 30th. It's July 24th and it *has. not. budged.*

I know pink stains can take a while but I'm thinking I'm gonna give it another week and then Josefina can just have a pink birthmark on her cheek because a month is ridiculous, I'm sorry. And she's a first edition so I can't just chuck her at the doll hospital for a new head.

In other news, I am shopping around for doll clothes patterns for Singing Bird, Lars, and Peter. I think I've landed on some suitable options. I don't think period-appropriate clothes patterns exist for Little Bitty Baby so I'll have to draft patterns for Britta myself.

Mama Sews a Dress

Mama reached into the trunk and pulled out the fabric bundles, each carefully wrapped in tissue.  The parcels had been untouched since they were safely stowed in the trunk for the voyage and Mama remembered preparing them for the passage, thinking perhaps they would come in handy sooner rather than later.  But the voyage had been rough, and time had passed more quickly than seemed possible.  So much had happened, in such little time.

In Sweden, their old country, she mused momentarily on how a place so permanent in her life could feel so very far away, she had rocked and sewed by firelight when Kirsten was just a little girl.  Using snips of fabric purchased at the market for a dress and shawl for herself, she fashioned a little dress and miniature shawl for the rag doll Kirsten would christen Sari.  She never made the dress or shawl for herself and thought perhaps it was time to do so, but for Kirsten.

When Britta woke her in the night with her tiny baby cries, Mama would feed the little one until she fell into mjölk drunk sleep.  She spent the night hours after by the firelight, cutting and stitching the fabric from home.  Home was not quite the right word and she struggled these days to think in Swedish sometimes.  Hem, she said to herself in a whisper, the Swedish word for home, hem.

Carefully, she added the grow stripe into the dress.  Kirsten had seen so much, two countries, the family of one and the native people of the other, a great ocean by ship and a great storm from a cave.  However, she was still a girl and one that seemed to grow by the moment.  Mama knew she would be so pleased to have a dress and shawl just like her doll, one she could wear for a while.

When the dress and shawl were done, she used the tissue from the trunk to wrap each piece.  There was plenty of fabric left over and one day perhaps Britta would have a dress to match.  Mama mused that perhaps Britta would play with Sari, but stopped herself.  No, Sari was Kirsten’s forever and always, förevigt och alltid.

Baby is here! This is a 8” Berenguer Lots to Love baby who will be serving as both Kirsten’s little sister Britta and the orphan Marie-Grace rescues, Philip.

After seeing the new mini baby AG is releasing, it made me want to post a few pics of Kirsten and her little sister, Britta. Britta is a Circo baby doll from Target and is around 8 inches in length. I got her several years ago but never got around to making her a more period appropriate outfit (I don’t know how to sew lol), but a doll like her would make a good alternate for Polly or the new modern girl’s babysitting set. ☺️
