Sarah blinks a couple of times, jaw slightly agape as she stares at him in quiet disbelief. After defeating the labyrinth she had assumed that was the end, and she would never see him again.

In some ways, it made her sad. To think that maybe that night really had been just a dream and her grand adventure was never real. That the friends she made in the Labyrinth were never real, but in some ways, she still believed they were with her. Still, seeing him here...certainly brings about some mixed emotions.

"...What are you doing here?" She asks, her voice carrying a hint of defiance and suspicion.

"Before  you  popped  up,  I  lived  in  happy  denial."  Still  didn't  explain  his  powers.  Aeron  wasn't  blind  to  who  his  father  was.  Zeus  himself  could  show  up,  and  he  would  still  question  it.  Sure,  he  lived  in  a  bubble,  but  that  was  safe.  Much  safer  than  acknowledging  the  countless  unknown  dangers  that  lurk  in  the  darkest  of  places.  "Humans  living  on  other  worlds,  I  can  believe  that.  Fucking  fairies  lurking  people?  Nope." Call  it  human  ignorance.  Call  it  whatever,  Aeron  wasn't  going  to  question  anything  more.  It  was  bad  enough  that  he  was  an  offspring  of  the  Gods. "Can  I  lie?"  His  brows  crinkled  in  guilt.  The  most  he  ate  was  all  junk.  Hamburgers,  milkshakes,  and  a  ton  of  Mountain  Dew  coupled  with  fries  made  his  diet,  and  that  was  just  the  half  of  it.  That  was  if  he  ate  at  all.  His  appetite  died  down  once  he  started  grieving  for  his  very  alive  husband. "You  just  got  back  and  already  want  to  do  chores,"  Aeron  whined  and  gagged  at  the  thought.  "The  cats  ate  like  kings.  Don't  worry  about  them.  They're  fat  and  happy." Burying  his  head  in  Obi-Wan's  shoulder,  he  stayed  there.  The  feeling  of  Kenobi's  arms  around  him  felt  way  better  than  originally.  He  was  his  anchor  through  a  furious  storm,  "Finnne.  I'm  still  getting  those  Apple  Tags  and  puttin'  Life  360  on  your  phone.  No  arguing."

Evening trains along the Hudson always arrived carrying light with them. He watched for it now around the bend south of Breakneck Ridge, the rails silver in the fading blue. Beacon station was nearly empty except for an aproned woman scrolling her phone, a man in a Yankees cap smoking near the parking lot, and a boy standing alone beneath the lamps with his pack at his feet. Him. He should have gone home several hours ago. There would already be messages from his mother asking where he was.  Ben checked his phone and shoved it back into his pocket. She hadn’t texted him at all. There was just one message, from his uncle. Retrieving his phone again, he replied reluctantly, in two words.  [ Uncle Ben ]: I’m fine.

I MOVE THE STARS FOR NO ONE . . .

"Of course I do!" She snapped, offended by the very implication that she didn't.

Sarah cared because it involved her friends. The Underground was their home. Despite her complicated history with the place, it was one of the most magical moments of her life. There were a few good memories she had gotten from there, despite everything. If the realm itself was slowly ceasing to exist then that meant her friends would too.

Sarah was honestly more surprised he seemed to care.

"I just--I don't know how I'm supposed to help? Just because I beat your labyrinth doesn't mean I'm qualified to--to deal with this!"

Sometimes, even dangerous situations felt like playing pretend, like battling in the tall grasses, leaping from the bases of massassi trees, hoping, though not really, a woolamander would clamber into the clearing, veering straight at them. Striking at clouds of gnats with their training staffs, prattling about what they’d do, how they’d Force jump, whether they’d pull off a Saber Swarm or a Hawk-Bat Swoop.

His uncle’s comment scintillated; it was exactly the sort of line that would make Voe puke, and in which Ben found a secret thrill. 

“Yeah!” Ben chimed in, finger hovering over Han Solo’s blaster trigger. It was like a battle cry. Then he turned a red-blue-tinged cheek toward Obi-Wan and frowned. 

What was a Sith Lord? 

The woman poised before them wore black robes and a cauterized slash across her breastbone. The light from Obi-Wan’s saber danced upon the markings on her brow. 

“They don’t make Jedi at all,” she litled. "You’re the last of your stock.”

A beat. A stillness in the air… Ben looked toward camp. 

“Oh, yes,” the woman told Obi-Wan, as if she’d just remembered. “Your padawans. I’ve killed the ones that I could find. I’ve killed the comms, crippled the engines, liquidated your livestock. Burnt the crops—” 

The red-saber wielders’ line of vision swept over little Ben. She smiled. 

“Adorable.”

These were the small moments that Shmi knew she would cherish until her last breath. She loved and appreciated when Obi-Wan was successful in his endeavours. She loved when he was top of the class. She loved when he was kind to others. She loved when he was excited. She loved when he was compassionate. She loved when he would read with a seriousness in his expression as though he were contemplating the very laws of existence itself. More than all of that though, she loved story time.

Anakin was away at a sleepover with at the Organa home and although Obi-Wan had been invited, he had chosen to stay at home with her. Qui-Gon was away in Amsterdam attending a convention whose lecture he had been working on for weeks. Shmi didn't like the idea of being alone too long, fearing that some of the sadder moments of her past would creep up on her. Obi-Wan was such a sensitive, intuitive boy, and where Anakin was far more brash and thought he would make everything better by expanding his presence till it filled every room of the house, Obin-Wan was far calmer. He knew what his mother needed.

Shmi finished stirring the pot of hot chocolate and carefully tipped the contents into two mugs; one for her and one for her son. She had laid out the marshmallows on the kitchen table where her son sat reading the latest book he'd picked up from the mobile library collection after having ordered it 2 months before. Unsurprisingly, it was a book devoted to space exploration, detailing specifically the history of the space race.

"Cocoa time Obi-Wan." Shmi announced, her voice almost lyrical as she placed one mug in front of him and one beside him. She slipped into that empty seat next to him. With an indulgent smile, she tapped a finger on the top of the book's spine. "Time to put it down, just for now."

"Oh for there was once a knight who fell in love, with an duchess fair, that he swore came from above," Obi-Wan sang as he held on to the pint of beer he ordered (for Jinn, maybe she's at least 21?).

Thanks to her brother, Ren Faire had become a family tradition her entire life. Handmade costumes were a must and good times were had by all.

Once again her dad had drunk a little bit too much, egged on by her Uncle Rex, and all she could do was laugh.

If it asked for anything, woodblocking asked for silence, and here was a man who would not be quiet. Ben couldn’t guess at what he was humming, but he took four turns through the damn thing. 

Ben lasted three before setting the gouge down harder than necessary.

Then, he begrudgingly picked up the chisel.
