Garrett Oliver was a homebrewer in his spare time while working jobs for HBO as a lawyer, booking tours for the Ramones and REM in Europe. In 1989, he became an apprentice brewer at the Manhattan Beer Company, whee he eventually became brewmaster. Unfortunately, Manhattan Beer Company ran out of business in the early 90′s, after that happened,Garrett went to work for the new Brooklyn Brewery, where he has been employed to this day.
Garrett is also an accomplished author, writing the Oxford Companion to Beer, The Brewmaster’s Table: Preserving the Pleasures of Real Food with Real Beer.
He’s also won a James Beard Award.
