Introducing the HVC Edicion Especial 2015. This little bad boy is a corona measuring at 5″ by 46. This is a great size in my opinion it gives me an old school vibe hearkening back to Winston Churchill and Fidel Castro. I do not read other sources before I review a cigar in order to stay as unbiased as possible. I only get the size of the cigar and the country of origin. According to famous smoke the wrapper is a rugged and sultry Mexican maduro. The binder and filler are Nicaraguan. The wrapper is toothy and matte yet well rolled, especially for a smaller gauge. It has a nice reddish brown color. It has a subtle musky aroma with a nice barnyard, specifically horse manure (yes there is a difference if you grew up near horses). The cold draw revealed a savory and sweet raisin-type scent. In the beginning especially and throughout the cigar I got an interesting mineral flavor, some may be turned off by but I rather enjoyed it. I got black coffee, and I mean a good coffee. I got a little vanilla and nutmeg, cedar and natural tobacco sweetness, and cocoa powder. I got a bit of leather on the finish, and black pepper and white pepper on the retrohale. The aroma is beautiful and has that same mineral scent which is rather unique. It feels medium bodied to me and the strength is totally manageable. Speaking earlier of nostalgia, the flavors are different yet similar to a Cuban. It doesn’t have the same mineral flavor Cubans have but it’s similar. I smoked 3 samples for this review, all of them were consistent and awesome. You get a good hour or more with this depending on how fast you smoke. This is one to take your time and collect your thoughts. I have very much enjoyed everything i’ve tried from HVC cigars. This one is not a symphony of flavors, although it is robust and honest in it’s own rite. This is a great cigar. In my opinion the body is medium bodied 6 out of 10. The strength is also a 6 out of 10. This one is a yes. I would give this my personal rating of 8.5 green chiles out of 10.
