Getting requests for more details! The solarium is an entirely new addition on the back of a #brownstone in #Brooklyn. I used a laser to line up the interior steps with the exterior steps and made a template blocking up from the unfinished floor to account for the 2-3/4” increase for radiant heat / tile install. Isaac @4thstatellc reviewed the template and suggested a few corrections (thank you Isaac) before fabricating the stringers using a water-jet. • The steps are 5/4 Ipe from @kuikenbrothers that I joined using 8x50 @festool dominos (that wood is hard in bits!). The Ipe was left unfinished after being sanded to 220 grit. For the stringers I applied two coats of primer and two coats of gloss black before assembly, which was a bit tricky since there are three individual stringers. I cut strips to the interior width of the outside stringers to hold them together at the final width and squared everything up and then installed each step (pre-drill or risk constant snapped screws). Once the step were on the middle stringer was added. These were bolted to the brick using 1/4” x 4” Hilti Lags, which are always my first choice when anchoring anything to concrete or brick.
