try laying your palm flat on the ground with the chicken on top, less of a threat if you're not physically holding it!

thanks but have tried that aha he is very small and he’s kinda intimidated by the size of my hand (terrified of my dad) so i pinch the chicken between my fingers and let him paw it out. got him last night, he was rescued as part of a feral litter and is still getting used to us. he hides on some chairs tucked under my kitchen table and won’t come out except to poke his nose out so it’s difficult to get to him anyways aha. just initiating some contact with him and he’s getting braver. he is very careful but sometimes the love of chicken overtakes him and he scratches or noms a bit of finger. my post wasn’t me being perplexed or annoyed at him batting at my hand, i am very endeared and i understand why he’s doing it. i grew up with rescue cats and have missed it a lot !
