Bullock's Wilshire Department Store (now the Southwestern Law School) is easily one of Los Angeles' finest remaining Art Deco buildings. What makes it so special is that both the exterior And the interior are well preserved. It has so much going on, one post simply can not handle all of it. This post alone is dedicated to just SOME of the light fixtures in there. Since it is an operating law school, you can't just walk in there. You have to wait for an annual tour & hope you score a ticket before it (quickly) sells out.

The Downtown location -- Bullock’s first -- was at 7th and S. Broadway, the Jewelry District. The ground floor is now a Burlington’s. All the Deco at the bottom is gone and the overhang entrance has been replaced. 

From Wikipedia, the origins of Bullock’s:

Bullock's was founded in 1907 at Seventh & Broadway in downtown Los Angeles by John G. Bullock, with the support of The Broadway Department Store owner Arthur Letts. In 1923, Bullock and business partner P.G. Winnett bought out Letts' interest after his death and the companies became completely separated. In 1929 Bullock & Winnett opened a luxury branch on Wilshire Boulevard, referred to at the time as Bullock's Wilshire (the apostrophe would later be removed).

Finally (!) got done editing my photos from my 7/30/2017 visit to Bullock's Wilshire (now Southwestern Law School). They only let a few hundred people in one day a year so it's a pretty tough do to get in. All 200+ photos are up over on my flickr, but I'll be putting many up on here in the weeks to come.

7. The bas reliefs of the Children's Department & the bronze works of the adjacent Saddlery Department are something you will never see anywhere else if for no other reason that they were custom-made for this store. This store of course being Bullock's Wilshire. A special 'Thank You' to Southwestern Law School for preserving this fine building instead of tearing it down when you purchased it a few decades ago.From my July 30th, 2017 visit.
