I hope you don’t mind me messaging but I saw your reblog and I’m glad other people are disappointed in polygon. I’ve pretty much finally given up on them, after maybe a year of holding out for them to get better again - it’s such a shame that they’re not sticking with the winning formula of being... fun? I really feel for pat, Jenna, etc. I wonder what the business-reasons stuff stopping them from making Gill and Gilbert era content now?
Yeah, I feel you... it’s just kind of sad and frustrating :/
I think the main reason why most Youtube channels/content creators have longevity and stay relevant is because viewers get invested in the actual people. Like, someone can make amazing content, but if they suck as a person I probably wouldn’t stick around. Right now new viewers barely even have an opportunity to get invested in the video team bc it’s all highly-polished video essays focused on content alone. It just seems to me that while this generates decent amounts of views, there are no new real fans... if that makes sense.
At the end of the day I think having a dedicated, invested group of viewers is more important than having a lot of people who just watch one video because it showed up in their recommendations.
And really, I don’t quite understand why they aren’t allowed to make their old style of content at all anymore either. It seems like a no-brainer to just mix silly and more serious content, but who knows what the execs are hoping for. I sincerely hope they might be able to make more silly fun content again in the future, but yeah, I’ve also kind of given up hope at this point... 😞
