The High farm ~ Closed ~ @manojoaquin​

Kaz was closer to the path towards the fisher’s hut. But able to watch the workers stream around the high farm, like lines of ants passing in their two way highways. The monk fussed and fluttered around in the long fabric of his robe, doing who knew what. When Joaquin passed a small fire set up for communal lunch, a gust of wind fanned the flames high. A pot over the campfire shot up and off the coals too. Embers spread wide and set fire to the surrounding area. 

Kaz walked curiously closer to see the action. He could’ve called out. Better still, sent a message directly to Joaquin’s ear. Neither of those happened.

[After accomplishing a feat] “Just doing what I do best.”

“Listen, I’m never falling in love again. You can count on that.” (This is a lie.)

“Everyone hated me.” (This is also a lie.)

“If I hadn’t been chosen, I wonder what I could have been. A lawyer? A mother? A baker? It’s best not to think about it.”

“Anyway, I just heard of this new spot…”

“Well, look at this. It’s just you, me, and the romantic ambience of the cemetery.”

“I know. I know.”

“Come onnnnnnnnnnnnn.”

“Greatest to ever do it. Residential goddess or whatever. My friends call me ‘Ria’. You can call me ‘Huntress’.”

“And does anyone else know this? Or am I just the lucky one burdened with that disgusting information?”

[Nudges demon with foot] “Is it dead? Can I kick it?”

“I don’t need to cut back on caffeine. I don’t need sleep.”

“And what do you want me to do about it?”

“I’m here as a punishment. Basically a ‘probation’ or whatever with the guild. Really just feels like they put me in time out to feel like they have the control.”

“I’m your friend. We’re together. Promise.”

“You sure? It’s getting late. Nah. I’m driving you home.”

[Said as nonchalantly as humanly possible] “Is she (Emery) coming?”

“She’s just a friend.”

“Thinking ‘bout doing my favorite things: smoking and drinking.”

[Said with visible disgust] “This town has changed.”

“Cállate.”

“You know, I’m no good.”

[Furiously writing in a notebook] “It’s nothing. Don’t worry about it.”

“I can’t do this right now.”

“You hungry? Let me make you something.”

“Em, do you know what you’re doin’ to me?”

“I can’t control my shifting.”

“Perfect Armando (his brother). Effortless as always.”

“I didn’t want you to see me like this.”

Within view of the Obelisk ~  Closed ~ @manojoaquin​

​On the very day the island exiled everyone to the south side, Kaz did not stop walking until he reached the obelisk. He was still drawn to it. A frustration, an obstacle, a persistent mystery, it suffered a permanent change. No names. NO NAMES! Now, four elusive symbols. Not the known ones Tomas found on a bunker either. 

While on a walk out to the monument, he recognized the person who walked towards him. “Joaquin,” he called with a jut of the chin to acknowledge. Kaz wouldn’t ignore him. Would never trust the fucker either, but. 

Actually, Kaz realized it was an opportunity. “Hey. Could I ask you a few questions?” For some reason, professional courtesy to ask, even as he barreled forward without waiting for a response. “Harry told me you two found a crystal inside an engine of a plane. The last one that crashed here and brought a fuck ton of people. Harry said it gave you a shock.” Kaz wanted to know more. How did it ‘shock’, for how long, what was the level of pain, what occurred around them when it happened, etcetera. "What did she mean by that, a shock? What did it feel like.”
