Ted wasn’t much of a night owl — early mornings on the water made that sort of lifestyle impractical, if not impossible. And yet there he was situated on the dock near his own boat, beaten old Igloo filled with beer as he stared up at the night-sky, the humidity having driven most people indoors at that point, but not him. He’d sent out a text to see if Whittaker had been around and wanted to join, but the blonde was more than comfortable in his solitude if she chose not to show. Until footsteps sounded against wood planks, and he recognized the gait as familiar almost immediately. “Well, well, well.” He chuckled. “I knew you’d never turn down a free drink.”
