Open Mic Night // Jinx & Wes
It was late already, a quarter to eleven, but it was Friday night. Of course Jinx was excited for the weekend even though she frequently went to work on weekends as well. However, Friday was special; Friday was open mic night. It was the one evening that she had the guts to climb up on stage and sing in front of a crowd while her drunk friends cheered her on. Maybe it was silly and insignificant, but downing a few drinks and singing was fun, and she needed fun. That’s why Jinx and her band of misfit toys made their way into the city once a week. They each sat on a bar stool with a drink in hand, chatting among themselves. Along with the scientist was a few of her friends, each of them with different careers. Her closest friend, Amanda, sat beside her, covered in tattoos. Most tattoo artists had plenty of their own and Mandi was no exception. “You’re almost up, J!” the best friend announced. “What’re ya singin’ tonight?” she questioned with a small nudge to the scientist.
“I’m gonna do ‘You and I’,” Jinx answered. Her speech was much more casual with her friends. She was relaxed, partly from the glass of whiskey she was swirling in her hand, but mostly because she was surrounded by her friends. A few joking howls boomed from them before the the sound of a mic being tapped echoed over them, calling her to the stage. Hopping down from the bar and walking to the stage, she shot a playful wink over her shoulder to her friends. The stage and grip of the mic was familiar. For a few minutes she would toss away all thoughts and simply sing, and that’s exactly what she did.
It's been a long time since I came around
Been a long time but I'm back in town
And this time I'm not leaving without you
You taste like whiskey when you kiss me oh
I'd give anything again to be your baby doll
This time I'm not leaving without you...
