Corey lifted the woman up over her shoulder and began to make her way through the enclosure - while not up in flames quite yet, the structure could give way at any moment. While she admired the woman’s dedication to her work, Corey couldn’t help but feel that her decision to stay back post-evacuation was a dumb one. The firefighters and the staff at the wildlife refuge had been working tirelessly for hours to ensure the safety of as many animals as possible - and their success rate was overwhelming. A few birds weren’t counted for at the moment, and a few injuries sustained, but overall their relief efforts were doing great. The last areas of the place were being evacuated at the moment, but the flames were out of control. It would take many more hours for that to die down - crews from all over the city were responding to the situation. With the woman still on her shoulder, Corey was able to settle her onto a gurney so she could get checked up by the medic. Lifting her helmet off for fresh air she looked the woman over and shook her head. “What the hell were you thinking?” Corey needed a minute to herself before she joined her colleagues working with the hoses.

desperate, she had been, to know of the whereabouts of her family. silence seemed to be the greatest punishment, tears threatening to fall as she found no one at all. tent by tent, she searched for a sign of her loved ones, and a hollow feeling seeped within her as she came to face with no response. body felt heavy, as she tried to keep herself from falling into despair, thoughts only thinking of the worst. but death knocked on their doors too often, how not to consider such thing? the world, was anything but gentle with them –– only punishing them further and further. but a bit of hope she found upon entering a nearby tent, one of her dear friends resting atop the bed. “delia!”. tears do not hold up as she goes to her side, hues quick to assess her face, her body, looking for any signs of serious damage. it did seem her friend had gotten it worse than she had. “i - i thought i would not see any of you again.” a sob escapes her lips as she stares at the woman, unable to keep herself together for any longer. “i thought you were all dead.”

Corey’s mouth went dry as Surrey stretched her hands above her head, even more of her skin being displayed as that tiny crop top she wore rose up. It’d been nearly six months of this - Surrey looking so perfect and sexy while Corey stuttered and stumbled her way through their friendship. “Let me get you some water, you look hot,” Corey excused, standing up from the couch. Despite the Air conditioner blaring to combat the 90-degree weather outside, she felt flushed. Corey poured them both a cup of water from the Brita filter she kept in her fridge and after a few deep breaths, braved going back out to the living room. However, when Surrey met her gaze with those lustful blue eyes and perfect smile, it was like a damn broke. Corey placed the glasses down on the table recklessly, water spilling over the edge and leaned into Surrey’s space. “You can’t keep looking at me like that and not expect me to do something,” she breathed out before capturing Surrey in a deep kiss.

Corey was settled on the front porch with a glass of sweet tea, relaxing after hours of yard work - Nola at her side. While the inside still had a lot left to do, she wanted to wait until Georgie got here. So she’d mowed and weeded and even planted two flowers her grandma had gotten her for the new place. She wanted it to look for Georgie, who was moving into the place sight unseen - well almost sight unseen considering Corey had given her a tour via facetime. When she heard the sound of squeaky breaks, she looked up and saw a small moving truck. That had to be her girl. It had only been a few days since they parted ways, but it felt like forever. After their Vegas wedding, Corey had gone with Georgie for a bit, then Georgie came to her, but then they had to separate for nearly two weeks while they settled their business and planned for their respective moves. Corey bounded down the steps and met the truck right as it parked. Georgie was barely out of the vehicle before Corey was picking her up and spinning her, causing them to stumble to the freshly cut grass as Corey moved to kiss her wife. “I missed you, baby.” She gave Georgie another deep kiss but it was interrupted by the furry body of her dog, trying to weasel her way between them.

“I got the baby to sleep,” Corey stated softly, though the smile on her face indicated just how excited and pleased she was at her accomplishments. When she’d started her night shift a few days ago, this was the last place she’d thought she’d end up. Early into her shift, they’d got a call for a large pile-up on the freeway that resulted in a fire. Upon arrival, they approached the scene and that was when Corey heard the baby’s cries. With little regard for protocol, she’d rushed to grab the baby from one of the cars before it got engulfed in flames. The baby had taken to Corey, quieting down after a few moments and she’d had to give her over to the paramedics, her heart almost broke. So when it became clear the baby needed an emergency foster situation, Corey stepped up. She’d never thought much about babies before now, but with the little girl in her arms - she felt at peace. This was something she wanted. Corey wanted a baby. “Do I look good?” She asked, settling onto the couch. She could put the baby into the pack and play provided, but she preferred the way the baby felt in her arms. “Thanks for all your help. I swear, I didn’t know diapers came in different sizes.”

Corey: I know there are rules about waiting three days after a date - but fuck that.
Corey: I loved last night.
Corey: I want to take you out again.
Corey: ... if you'd like.
