Mariana, after allowing herself to make a cup of tea and finish up the chapter in her book, forced herself to roll out her suitcases to her parents car. Initially, Maria had always hated going to Myrtle Beach. Always. The parties were too loud and the people were too aggravating, tourists got on her last nerve and food was overpriced. There wasn't a college prep class in a 20 mile radius and her few friends back at home refused to travel up with the brunette - seeing as they had the mindset of Maria.
So she had no idea why she was dreading getting in that car and driving away for the last time.
Well, she did know. Mariana just didnt want to face it. The brunette always told herself she wouldnt get wrapped in summer romances - they only ended in depressing goodbyes she would read about, and even more depressing heartbreaks. The brunette had gone through that enough. She didnt deserve that.
But now, here she was, staring across at her boyfriend's house, the boyfriend Maria knew was avoiding her. She had done the same thing all morning. The girl hated the whole feelings situation. Time and time again this too short summer the brunette had convinced herself she didnt care when Aubrey was with him, that she didnt feel anything outside the steps of a dumb masquerade ball she hadnt wanted to attend in the first place, didnt feel an overwhelming amount of guilt when she had landed herself in the hospital because of her ex-boyfriend.
Yet here Mariana was, sitting on the steps of her parents vacated summer home, her eyes flicking over to Bentley's home for what seemed to be every two seconds - she didnt even know what book she was pretending to read.
But there was no way in hell the brunette would be the first to walk over first. No way. That would be admitting defeat. So she waited it out. Listened to William Fitzsimmons and slowed down her parents as much as possible, observing as others left the beach into different lives Mariana would never know about. God, this was depressing. The brunette was counting down the days to the end of the summer, and now she was dreading them with every ounce of her being.
She was pulled out of her daze when a familiar voice spoke up, Alexandria smiling over Mariana as the girl ran over to engluge the brunette in an expected hug.
"Bye, Maria, I'm going to miss you so much."
The brunette huffed at the wave of emotions, hugging Alexandria. She had always wanted a younger sister, not a shitty twin brother Maria couldnt even dress up.
"I'm going to miss you too, Alex." Mariana's cracking voice was filled with sincerity, hugging the girl tight before peering up past her little head and locking eyes with the blonde asshole she happened to be dating.
