Calm the fuck down.
Jaiden had to keep reminding himself to breath every few seconds. His heart pounded, his hands shook, there were beads of sweat gathering on his face. If anyone glanced his way they’d think he was about to pass out. They’d be correct.
Being accepted into a Shield program straight out of University was unheard of. Jaiden had only applied because his boyfriend had gone on and on about him wasting his potential as an IT guy helping fellow students get rid of viruses they’d contracted from surfing through to many porn sights. When he sent his resume, he didn’t even consider the chance of receiving a response. Let alone everything else that came with it.
He broke up with his boyfriend and moved out to headquarters the next week, telling anyone who asked that he’d been hired for an internship at Google. Nobody bothered to check into it further.
Ambition had always been a driving force in Jaiden’s life. Ambition and a devastating need to prove the world wrong. He was not just another forgotten kid from a poor family. He was smarter than everyone else in the room and he was going to accomplish everything he set his mind to.
Unfortunately, he was really struggling with setting his mind to murder.
He could fight, growing up in his neighbourhood you learned to make a name for yourself as a scraper quickly, otherwise you’d never get left alone. Granted, as soon as he proved he could take a hit, he stopped fighting all together. He didn’t want to end up locked in a cell, sleeping next to this uncle.
When he accepted his position, he hadn’t even been aware of the full extent of the program he was apart of. He’d been on strict desk duty for months, hacking into fire walls for information he never saw, and keeping their own systems as up to date as possible. He assumed that would be where he sat for the rest of his life. When his boss offered him more money than his entire family had combined to take out a bad man that Jaiden had never heard of, he was stunned. Stunned, and flattered that out of everyone in the office, they’d chosen him for this incredibly prestigious mission. Maybe he should have considered the reality of the situation more thoroughly before he accepted. But reckless impulsiveness had always been part of his charm
That brought him here. Standing in a dark alleyway at night, quietly waiting for his target- that still sounded ridiculously made up to him- to walk by. He had only a vague idea of what the man looked like, but was told he’d be sent a text when the man walked by.
Finally, after what felt like hours, a tall, broad man walked into the dark street. Jaiden’s phone buzzed as the man passed him. He didn’t let himself hesitate, wrapping his hand around the hilt of the dagger his boss had given him, he stepped out of the shadows, raised his knife over his head, and aimed for the man’s neck.
