Ca'Marcanda 2015 Magari (SRP $65): Magari means ‘if only it were true’, an expression used often in Italian to express desire, hope, and a vision of a bright future. This vintage marks a noteworthy change in the composition of Magari. Routinely led my Merlot, after 20 years of experience working the estate property, Cabernet Franc established itself as a variety that can more than stand on its own. Therefore, Margari will be dominated by Cabernet Franc going forward. It makes up 60% of this blend, with 30% Cabernet Sauvignon and 10% Petit Verdot—all estate fruit. There’s an appealing airiness, freshness and savory quality to this medium-bodied wine. Flavors of mixed berry compote, plum, worn leather and dark, earthy flavors are framed by gravelly tannins and juicy acidity.
