“You got a D again?” Bosco questioned, holding back a snicker as Daya glared at her.
“It’s hard! I swear we didn’t go over half the stuff on this test.” Daya grumbled, glancing back at the test that had been handed back to her with a disgusted look as if that would help her from failing every test they got.
“We did, you just weren’t paying attention.” Daya elbowed Bosco as they smirked, knowing full well they were right but not wanting to admit it. Sitting next to them was distracting enough and it wasn’t her fault their teacher was the most boring person known to man.
“Why don’t you get someone to tutor you? At this point, you’re not going to pass if you don’t start doing better.”
Daya just sighed in response, rolling her eyes but nodding nonetheless, she knew she needed help. She was already behind and failing math wasn’t exactly something she wanted to do. Though she didn’t want to deal with someone other than Bosco trying to help her. No one else got her as they did and it was too easy to want to change.
Bosco would joke that she never wanted any other friends, she’d scare people away with her height and cold, bitchy demeanour. Bosco knew it to be a lie, Daya was one of the softest people she knew but her guard was perpetually up unless they were alone and it made befriending people difficult.
It wasn’t much of a surprise when Daya was asked to stay after class, though she glanced to her side as the redhead that always kept her head down who sat in front of her was also asked. Bosco just smirked as they left to wait outside, telling her not to be too long.
“Daya? Your results are a bit concerning. You’re a bright girl so I don’t know why you keep failing tests, is that friend of yours distracting you?”
Daya shook her head, she would sooner die than go through math class without Bosco to make it interesting.
“If your grades don’t start picking up I’m afraid I’ll have to move you, maybe start with actually handing in your homework?”
Daya just nodded along, knowing if she spoke up she would surely say something to get herself in trouble. She could hold her thoughts in, for now, to tell Bosco later.
“So, Camden. I’d like you to help Daya, you could be a good influence on her. She definitely needs it.”
Daya held back the eye roll, knowing Bosco was listening in on this and laughing to themself in the hallway.
“Yes miss, I’m more than happy to help her.”
“Good, you can both go now.”
Daya glanced at Camden, taking in the smaller girl's appearance properly for the first time. She’d seen her around and in class but she never spent too long looking at people, they’d always look scared if she stared for too long.
Camden was a lot meeker than someone like Bosco, she was smart, Daya knew that much. From what she’d heard she also went to dance with Bosco and was always the first one to volunteer for things and a bit of a teacher's pet.
The other glaringly obvious thing was that she was cute, maybe it was the curly ginger hair that framed her face or the shy smile she gave Daya when they turned to each other.
Maybe this could be bearable.
Bosco raised an eyebrow as the pair walked out, exchanging numbers before Camden went off to lunch. It took one look to know Daya wasn’t going to live this down and Bosco was going to take great joy in teasing her at every opportunity.
“So, Camden huh?” Bosco’s smirk was audible, Daya rolled her eyes, refusing to make eye contact, knowing it would make Bosco even smugger.
“Don’t start. She’s just going to help me with math.”
“I mean, she’s cute. It’d be good for you to talk to another person for a change.” Bosco shrugged, although she kept her eyes trained on Daya as her disposition changed at the last part.
“Are you getting sick of me?” Her tone was jokingly accusing, though Bosco knew there was some hurt in there, the hesitation in her eyes was a clear sign they’d hit a nerve. Shit.
“Never,” Bosco spoke softer, making sure Daya held her eye contact, stroking her hand with their thumb as she glanced down.
“Daya. I mean it. Where else am I going to find someone who’s just as good of a mix as stupid and pretty as you? You’re too much fun to be around.”
“You think I’m pretty?” Daya glanced back up, smiling slightly at Bosco as they laughed, of course, she focused on that part.
“Yes, that’s just a fact.”
Daya smiled, her hurt already forgotten at that revelation. Bosco kept hold of her hand, finding a table out the way for them to sit at and spend the rest of their lunch period talking about everything that had transpired in the math class and why Daya’s eyes had lingered on Camden longer than she ever did anyone else.
Bosco was never going to let her live that down.
—
Daya tried to shake off the anxiety that fell over her, knowing she couldn’t exactly pull her usual act of bitchy disinterest if the person was going to be helping her. It was easier for Camden to come to her house, Crystal was at work so she didn’t have to worry about seeing anyone.
But the idea of someone other than Bosco in her space? It was terrifying. Camden was nice over text, and from what she’d heard off of Bosco she always seemed sweet during their fleeting conversations at dance.
Daya glanced up to see the redhead coming toward her, swallowing her feelings and trying her best to put on a less angry face. Bosco always told her she had a mean resting bitch fact and that wouldn’t help her get Camden on her side and actually pass math.
By the time they arrived, Daya was ready to melt into the ground at the questions Camden had asked her. Asking what she struggled with had turned up with far too many things to list. It was easier to ask what she did understand. The list seemed to shrink every time she went to class.
Though it was surprisingly easy, Camden made for a patient teacher, working through every part of the homework that Daya struggled with and explaining it in-depth, even if she did have a bit of a giggle at the fact the taller girl had no clue how to figure out a square root even while holding a calculator. They worked their way through over half the problems before Daya’s focus started to give out.
“This is hurting my brain.” Daya groaned, staring at the problems in front of her as if they were an ancient language she was trying to unravel, Camden just laughed, putting her pen down and turning to the taller girl.
“Why don’t we take a break? You’ve got a lot of it done.” Camden smiled, leaning back in her chair to stretch. Something about her felt welcoming. She'd heard enough from Bosco to know the redhead was easy to get along with but it felt different. It felt safe like she could be more openly herself around her and not have to keep her guard up so high.
“Because I won’t want to go back to it.”
“I’ll make sure it’s finished by the time I leave, give yourself a second to process.” At Camden’s insistence, Daya just nodded. Her focus was long gone and this was causing more and more pain the more she tried to understand it. Whoever created math must have hated people.
“I need another coffee.”
“How do you sleep when you drink so much caffeine?” Camden looked at the taller girl in shock, that had to have been her third cup since they started. Where did all the caffeine even go?
“I don’t. Do you want another drink?” Daya shrugged, unable to stop herself from smiling at the dramatic shock of Camden’s expression. The redhead stared at her in disbelief, shaking her head at how quickly she moved on to another subject.
Camden just shrugged it off, asking for water as Daya left the room, leaving her to sit briefly and ponder everything. Daya was interesting, to say the least, she’d thought that the taller woman was going to be difficult to work with. She rarely talked to anyone other than Bosco, always seemed disinterested in people, and had no problem saying exactly what she was thinking to someone. But something about that perception felt so off, even having only spent a couple of hours with her.
Camden glanced around from where she was sitting at Daya’s desk, the fact the walls were painted bright yellow wasn’t lost on her. It felt like there was so much to Daya that she hid. It wasn’t hard to see she was guarded, that much was obvious even when they started texting to discuss how and when to meet up for tutoring. Her answers were short, rarely more than a few words. But it was so different from how she was, either laser-focused or just wanting to talk and not look at the thing she was supposed to be working on.
Daya came back in soon after, setting down the drinks and going back to her chair, though her attention was anywhere other than the worksheet.
“That’s a cute mug.” Camden gestured to the koala mug Daya was sipping her coffee out of. Daya’s face lit up at the comment, proudly showing it off with a gleeful smile.
“Isn’t it? I love koalas.”
“Are they your favourite animal?”
“Yeah! I even have koala slippers. They’re so cute.” Daya stood up, grabbing her slippers from the other side of her room to show. Camden couldn’t help but laugh slightly at the sight of Daya, all black clothes. Someone half of the school was scared of, holding up her koala slippers like they were the most important thing in the world. It was endearing in a way Camden didn’t quite understand, it made her feel warm inside as if she got to see this side of the girl that no one else really did.
Except for Bosco.
Their chatter continued, Camden learning the walls were yellow because that was Daya’s favourite colour and about the large plush koala that sat on her bed being a gift from Bosco. She couldn't help but forget the reason they were there in the first place, the math homework sat untouched for far too long before Camden remembered that they had still yet to finish all the problems.
Just as they neared the end, Daya finally noticed her phone buzzing from where she’d tossed it on her bed earlier in the day. Glancing at it sent a wave of panic through her, three missed calls from Bosco and five texts getting increasingly antsy in tone, asking if she was there and if she could pick up her damn phone before finishing with just a simple message that broke her heart to look at.
Daya, please
Daya fumbled, quickly going to ring Bosco as Camden watched in silence, not wanting to disturb whatever was happening in front of her. The way Daya’s face dropped was enough to clue her in it was important.
Bosco picked up almost instantly, Daya quickly noticing her panicked breaths over the line.
“Oh thank god, why weren’t you picking up your phone?”
“I’m sorry, I was busy with the tutoring.”
Bosco just sighed in return, it sounded defeated. Daya made a mental note to press them to talk about their feelings when the time was right.
“Can I come over? We had another argument.” They continued, though their usual confidence was replaced with something much more meek and quiet. Something that worried Daya.
“Oh god, of course. You’re always welcome here.”
“Thanks.” Bosco hung up shortly after, Daya knowing she’d be there within the next 10 minutes.
Camden looked at her, confused as Daya rushed back over to her desk, staring at the homework once more as if nothing had happened.
“I’m trying to finish this before she comes over.” Daya clarified, glancing at Camden as she spoke before focusing on the last question of the sheet.
The doorbell rang before long, Daya jumping up in a hurry and rushing down, knowing Bosco would be annoyed anyway and not wanting to leave them waiting.
Though she expected it, the sight at the door still tugged at her heart. Bosco stood in front of her, their face a contorted mixture of about to cry and absolutely fuming. Daya reached her hand out, pulling Bosco in and letting them bury their head into her shoulder without a word.
She spent a few minutes calming them down before dragging Bosco to her bedroom, momentarily forgetting Camden was still in there as Bosco’s demeanor changed, staring at Camden with the coldest glare Daya had seen from her.
Camden looked back at her, blinking wilding wondering what she had done to get herself into this situation.
Oh right, Daya.
you don’t know what you do to me - chapter two (daya x bosco/daya x camden)
ignore this took so fucking long to finish but i’ve finally written the second chapter and hopefully i’ll be posting updates more regularly now exams are over and it’s summer, am working full time tho so we’ll see
and perhaps there is more ships than i originally mentioned ;) ao3 link
Bosco couldn’t help but just stare chillingly at Camden as they continued to walk Daya through the last problem on the sheet, watching them hesitate as her eyes never left the pair of them at her desk. Daya just frowned, muttering to Bosco to not look like she wanted to kill her only hope of passing this damn class.
As soon as she left, they felt free to let everything out. The feeling of being burrowing against Daya’s chest was safe enough for the dam to break, everything spilling forward in a torrent of emotion they couldn’t control, or maybe didn’t want to. Perhaps it was easy to be messy, Daya didn’t care. She would just hold them until it all subsided.
They took a deep, shaking breath to try and subside the sobs that started pouring out, it was a fruitless endeavor, Bosco clung to Daya like a safety net, keeping her from facing her own feelings, pent up for eternity until someone could see through all the sarcasm and quick wit.
“It’s okay now, let it out,” Daya whispered, running a hand through Bosco’s ginger curls as they let themself cry harder, muffling the cries into Daya’s chest.
wip wednesday

Hi you've managed to find the one (1) wip that isn't dayasco 😂
"Who's your friend?"
"This is Camden, the girl from my dance class I told you about."
Daya looks her over unabashedly while forming a big bubble with her chewing gum and letting it pop, a smirk settling onto her lips.
"You weren't lying when you said she's pretty." Daya winks at her before skating off again.
Camden's face feels like it's on fire. Did Daya just flirt with me? She turns to Bosco, who grins triumphantly.
"I knew you'd be her type."
