Our Halloween costumes from last year!!
It’s hard to pick a favourite character… Skull boy has a certain charm to him though? And obviously Ruby Gloom herself, but that would be too obvious of a pick.
We had some English relatives, my husband's blood relative and her husband, here for a visit in early June. Amazing people. We spent a week and a half driving them all over Manitoba. They're recently discovered via a DNA match which my husband and the relative did the legwork to prove with real genealogical records. That's another story for another post though. My point with this one is regional lexicon.
One day we were on a drive through Winnipeg, on St Mary's Road, the two of them in the back seat, and we passed an Assiniboine Credit Union with the name in huge letters on the building.
The relative piped up from the back seat, "How do you say that word?"
I said it. Assiniboine. Simple, right?
There are surprising commonalities between "Heated Rivalry" and "Schitt's Creek," two of Canada’s most successful TV exports

Sirius: Wait. Could that mean that Canadians are all werewolves?

How was ur experience watching the Canadian game show cash cab?
I got a few asks for this one, so I'll answer this one and tag everyone else! thanks for the reminders guys! you're the best!

with that out of the way, cash cab.
this show is such a weird and oddly concerning premise I can only describe as "imagine getting a taxi and then getting kidnapped to participate on a game show" I'm not kidding, that's the premise.
the host drives around in a can, picks up guys off the street looking to catch a cab, get's information about where they're going, and then a bunch of probably not legal bright flashing lights go off, and you're on cash cab now. no interviews, contestants are just literally grabbed unaware off the street. seems like a terrible idea honestly. I'm surprised there's never been a headline about them accidentally picking up a murderer without realising it, double surprised no one ever pulled a knife to try and steal the THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS THEY JUST HAVE SITTING IN THE CAR.
anyway, then the contestants get asked questions on the drive to their destination. they have until they reach it to answer as many correct as possible to win as much money as they can. then once they get there they can double or nothing it all on one last question.
the barely legal lights thing wasn't a joke, those things flash like crazy when a question is answered right, and flash red when answered wrong, all while the host is STILL DRIVING. how there was never an accident I will never know.
also if you answered enough questions wrong, you just got kicked out back onto the street, they don't even finish taking you to your destination! rude!
one of the strangest parts is that the hist asks if you want to play before you take off, and if you say no they just keep that in the episode??? like, "no, I don't want to be on tv." "fuck you, you're on tv now, even if you didn't participate." it's like flashing the faces of all the jeopardy applicants during the show whether they got on or not. it's weird, and I had an irrational fear as a child of being forced onto a game show against my will after watching it.
but yeah, last week I learned it was a Canadian thing, not a global thing, and realised most of you probably haven't heard of this acid trip of a show. seriously, what were they on when they came up with this???
