Getting My Nature Fix in Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monument by Mark Stevens Via Flickr: While walking the 100 Hands Pictograph Trail in Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monument with a view looking to the southeast across the valley with the Escalante River. I decided to use the high ground I was located on and create a sweeping view across this Utah high desert, national monument setting. The eroded and varied landscape with the cliff walls also helped to bring out a layered approach to draw a person into the image, I felt. I did some initial post-processing work making adjustments to contrast, brightness and saturation in DxO PhotoLab 5. I then exported a TIFF image to Nik Color Efex Pro 5 where I added a Polarization and Pro Contrast filter for that last effect on the image captured.
Itineraries in Exploring Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monument by Mark Stevens Via Flickr: While walking along the many trails present in the Devils Garden in Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monument. The view is looking to the southwest to some nearby hoodoos and eroded formations. My thinking in composing this image was to zoom in a little with the focal length and have those sandstone formations in the image center, more or less. I would use the foreground with the desert plant-life and grasses leading up to that formation and have the cliffs off in the distance and blue skies above as a backdrop and color contrast to highlight the hoodoos.
Green River Overlook in Canyonlands, looking out over the massive desert basin. Right on the edge of the red rock cliff, there’s a lone figure standing there, which really gives you a sense of just how massive and endless this landscape actually is.
Enjoying a Saturday Afternoon in Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monument by Mark Stevens Via Flickr: While walking along the many trails present in the Devils Garden in Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monument. The view is looking to the northeast to some nearby hoodoos and eroded formations. My thinking in composing this image was to use the hardened sandstone with its layers of rock present as a layered approach leading up to those hoodoos. I would center them and use the blue skies and clouds as a backdrop and color contrast.
