Am I allowed to ask for #46 for Rahjim and Kharion? Otherwise #16 DeanCas <3
“am i allowed” I SAID ALL PAIRINGS!! And I will ALWAYS make exceptions for Rahjim and Kharion <33
This got stupid long but what else is new?!
46. A lingering kiss before a long trip apart.
Rahjim breathes heavily in the aftermath. After all this, it seems too easy. His uncle in chains, the throne is his now. It’s too big, too large. The life it offers is constrained, like chains around his arms. He will never be free, once he sits on it. He never asked for this burden.
Kharion sheaths his swords, “The fighting is done,” he declares, “my oath is fulfilled.”
“Take me with you,” Rahjim blurts out, “there’s so much to see out there-- so much more to experience. I can’t-- I’m not a leader. I’m no good at diplomacy. I want to fight, I want to travel.”
Kharion considers his words. The captain always takes his time with his thoughts. Rahjim likes how captivating that makes him, because his words are so carefully chosen.
“You would make for a terrible pirate,” Kharion finally says.
“I’m a very good pirate,” Rahjim insists, “I love treasure, and sharing your bunk.”
Kharion chuckles. His wings take up space as he stretches them out, shakes off the energy of the fight.
“If you ran away with me, you would regret it,” Kharion says.
Rahjim looks around the empty hall, back to the open throne. He’s right. To run away, leave his people leader-less, in the face of the Galran invasion? The Galra will completely overtake them, turn them into a colony with no rights, no power.
“I don’t know how to beat the Galra,” Rahjim admits, “I don’t-- I don’t think we have the power for that. And our allies won’t reach us in time. It’s a losing battle.”
“You’re good in a fight,” Kharion reminds him.
“Thank you for that,” Rahjim agrees.
“But you’re better with words,” Kharion finishes.
Rahjim blushes at the praise, “Good enough to convince a pirate to stay? Perhaps as my guard?”
“No one is that good,” Kharion lets him down gently. Rahjim already knew the answer. Kharion belongs to the open skies, to the lawless freedom of the pirate life.
“I’m going to miss you,” Rahjim confesses, “I know it’s strange to say to my captor--”
“Your captain,” Kharion corrects.
“I’ll be a Prince next time we meet. I’ll outrank you,” Rahjim reminds him.
"I know no sovereign,” Kharion says, “not even a backwater prince like you.”
“You may not recognize my power, but you like me anyways,” Rahjim says.
“Aye. Against my better judgement,” Kharion agrees, “you’re a rascal. Bring that to your politics. They won’t know what to do with you.”
“Listen, hopefully,” Rahjim says.
They’re both drawing out this goodbye, when they don’t have the time to do so.
Rahjim likes how Kharion towers over him. How the captain fills the space with his bulk.
“Thank you,” Rahjim says again.
“This was a job,” Kharion reminds him, “not personal. I don’t get involved.”
“Right,” Rahjim nods, “I did offer payment. It will-- I might need time to put it together. Can you return?”
“A pirate willingly coming to the crown Prince? Do you think I’m stupid?” Kharion laughs, “pay me the next time we meet.”
"When will that be. I’m going to be so busy, and it’s not like I can just go anywhere as the Prince-- oh,” Rahjim realizes. They’re never going to meet again.
“Kharion...” he starts.
Kharion cuts him off with a kiss. Sharp teeth against his mouth, the scent of the larger man around him. It’s a moment, an eternity in time. Because this is the end, and Rahjim is terrified of the future barreling in on him. Rahjim sighs as Kharion pulls away.
“I only did this for the money,” Kharion reminds him. A lie. The Captain has a softer heart than he’ll ever admit.
“I’ll have it ready, for the next time,” Rahjim promises.
“For the next time,” Kharion agrees, “don’t break your promise, my backwater prince.”
He spares one last look at Rahjim, and then takes his leave.
[I saw a post somewhere that this was OC Kiss Week, so I owe this little snippet of love to @demenior, who has been letting me play in her beloved sandbox. Also a gift to @gitwrecked, who is a terrible enabler to us both.
P.S. If you haven’t read this, then you’re missing out on the beauty that is Prince Rahjim. Pls go remedy that. <3]
not much time (there’s always time for a kiss, darling)
“You are always in such a hurry,” Rahjim says, a pout conveying his exact thoughts on the matter, his chin in the palm of his top left hand.
Kharion snorts, hand paused in reaching for his coat. “There’s work to be done. I’m sure you understand.”
“Of course I do, but I am at liberty to protest it as much as I like. At the moment, I am protesting your intent to leave me for another few months, never knowing when you might land upon my doorstep to demand my attention.”
“As if anyone demanding your attention is an inconvenience to you.”
Kharion leaves his coat and moves to the chair Rahjim lounges in, expectant. He’s such a brat, this powerful prince, and despite knowing that, he’s sometimes drawn to bend to his will. It’s not as if Rahjim doesn’t make his efforts worth it, but Kharion finds it even more worth it when he gives Rahjim shit for it first. Can’t make it too easy after all. He sinks down to one knee, graceful for all his mass, wings shifting to adjust so that they don’t scrape the floor. His head bows, but Rahjim can feel Kharion’s eyes never leave him. He grins, showing off his teeth, unable to help being a right bastard along with his clear acquiescence.
“Yes, this. I like this,” Rahjim tells him with a laugh, shifting so that he is leaning forward, as if he is about to knight this fiend for his attitude.
“Would you have something of me, backwater prince,” Kharion asks, using his native tongue for the insult. They both know it’s anything but.
“A kiss,” Rahjim states plainly, as if it’s his right. “You will allow me time for that.”
His fingers brush underneath Kharion’s chin, and he raises his head, the grin widening. The captain rises up to his full height over Rahjim and bends at the waist. Before their mouths even touch, two of Rahjim’s hands fall reflexively to Kharion’s hips, one moving to his chest and the last cupping his jaw. Kharion braces for impact, knowing that within moments of contact, his knees will be weak. As he leans on the arm of the chair, he welcomes the feel of Rahjim’s kiss, his own hand sliding into thick, dark hair.
It isn’t quick, it lasts for longer than he tracks, and he doesn’t care. There’s always time for this.
if you felt like it, I would love to see just a little something from Rahjim's POV about Kharion. Because reasons. Your writing is amazing, and so is your lovely prince! <3
Where is this going? We just don’t know!!!
The Captain is a quiet man,the dangerous calm in the middle of a storm, and he chooses his wordscarefully. On a busy deck, when he talks, his crew listens. Even thephysicality of him demands attention, and reverence. Rahjim occasionally meetsother people taller than he is, but Kharion carries his size and bulkcarefully, but not cautiously. He’s sure ofhis body, filled it out and wears every inch of it.
Rahjim loves watching him inaction.
Kharion hasn’tyet realized Rahjim is here, which is the whole point. It’s not often Rahjimhas to leave the palace, and he’s forgotten what it’s like in a commoner’sport. It’s crowded, multiracial and dirty. It thrills him, to be out amongstthe scoundrels. He likes that he knows how to keep his head down, keep hisidentity secret.
He’sfollowing Kharion from afar, through stalls that crowd narrow streets. Rahjimcasually inspects a fruit when Kharion pauses to glance behind him. When Rahjimlooks up, Kharion seems to have melted away.
A game, then. He knows he’sbeing followed.
Rahjim follows quickly, finding the small alley Kharion must have slipped through. So fast for suchsize. So steady in the face of adversary, until enough ripples turn him into atsunami.
Rahjim’shalfway through the alley when someone steps out of a nook between buildings hehadn’t noticed. There’s a sword at his throat.
“Whatdo you want?” Kharion growls.
Rahjim tilts his head up,and with a shake of his head lets his hood fall back.
“Totalk,” he grins. Kharion taps the flat of his sword against Rahjim’s throatbefore dropping it to his side.
“Backwater Prince,” Kharion sighs, and glances around nervously “thisis no place-”
“This is exactly myplace,” Rahjim says, and his smile falls, “I need your help.”
Kharion belongs to @paladinpuppypile and Rahjim is of course, my boy.
