Pulsatio : Heartbeat - Caradoc

Calloused finger tips brushed against an only mildly less rough palm of the hand nearby. Small touches, tiny reminders hidden beneath a massive oak table in the Order’s hide out. A quick glance shared, along with a hidden smirk that said all Robert needed to say. The slight roll of those deliciously deep brown eyes partnered with the tiniest of lifts of those perfectly shaped lips were enough for him in response. 

Heart beat picking up at the idea of being with the man who’d consumed ninety percent of his waking thoughts these days, Robert began to lower his hand only to find it grasped. A refusal of his departure. 

What was being spoken around the table, Robert gave no fucks about. It would be much of the same. Defense is the best offense. They needed information, not action. Don’t talk about missions in public. Keep an ear out for anything. He in particular, needed to keep an eye on things leading up to the finals. After last year, everyone was on high alert, especially with the Harpies having made it to the finals. 

Same old, same old. 

The more interesting thing was how risky Caradoc was willing to get with their relationship, or whatever word you wanted to use for it. The longer they went on like this, constantly raising the stakes, the deeper Robert fell into whatever pit Caradoc Dearborn had built for him. He brushed his thumb along Caradoc’s index finger, a feeble attempt at reminding him that while he wanted to, it wasn’t safe here. 

Too many people, too many friends. 

Someone would catch on eventually. As it was, he was almost positive Kat knew he was head over heels for the stupid dreary idiot. The displays at the wedding had been stupid, but he’d been too happy to care at the time. But here, where Benjy kept throwing glares in their direction, and Lily kept eyeing them, he felt on display. It kept pumping his heart beat further and further up every moment Caradoc insisted upon holding his increasingly sweaty hand. 

“You’re playing with fire,” Robert murmured finally, as three members began to argue about a mission being assigned. 

Caradoc’s eyes bore into his, and pointedly, brought Robert’s hand onto his lap, forcing the back of his hand to stroke against the inside of his thigh, just below his crotch. 

“Fucking insane,” he added, swallowing and attempting to adjust the rest of his body to seem perfectly natural in this position, certain he was failing given the confusion in Lily’s eyes as they met his. He thought he heard a rumble of a laugh roll out of Caradoc briefly as he squirmed. Robert was about to forcefully pull his hand away, only holding back out of fear of it drawing more attention, when Caradoc’s abruptly let go of him and joined in the conversation, bringing his own hands atop the table, and Robert gaping at him in shock. 

The hell was wrong with this bloke? And why the fuck did he find the evident smirk playing at his lips so bloody attractive? Rubbing his hands along his face, Robert decided that they were both clearly out of their minds. And if Caradoc kept on like this, he was going to have a heart attack before the bloody war could even attempt to kill him.

Send a ship and I’ll tell you who;

Gives nose/forehead kisses; Robert, half because he wants to touch, half because it’s amusing to annoy Caradoc. 

Gets jealous the most; Caradoc. Does Robert have to flirt with every fucking moving thing within a kilometer? 

Picks the other up from the bar when they’re too drunk to drive; Caradoc, begrudgingly, all while batting Robert’s hand away from him as he tries to do inappropriate things in the car.

Takes care of on sick days; Neither, beyond throwing a box of tissues at the other. 

Drags the other person out into the water on beach day; Robert 100%, but it almost never works because Caradoc is fucking huge and can be scary when he wants to. Plus the threat of no fun time later makes Robert give up with a pout and offer to skinny dip. 

Gives unprompted massages; Robert, he needs to touch, and even though Caradoc will often try to shrug him off or snap at him for his wandering hands, he’ll still do it. 

Drives/rides shotgun; You think Caradoc is dumb enough to let Robert drive him?

Brings the other lunch at work; Robert, mainly because he just wants to see Caradoc. But it very rarely happens, because the effects the dementors have on him... lets just say, he’s got a lot more respect for Caradoc not being insane at this point. 

Has the better parental relationship; Robert, and his parents bring Caradoc into their lives with open arms, his mum often fussing over him, thinking they’re best friends. Both are happy to play along with this, even if Caradoc doesn’t know how to deal with happy parents. 

Embarrassingly drunk dancer; Both think the other is, and Caradoc usually wins this battle simply because Robert dances more. 

Still cries watching Titanic; Robert, who is convinced afterwards that the dementors have actually sucked Caradoc’s soul out. 

Firmly believes in couples costumes; Neither, though Robert teases about it just to annoy Caradoc. 

Breaks the expensive gift rule during Christmas; Again, neither. Being together is free, well except for the toll it takes on Caradoc’s sanity. 

Makes the other eat breakfast; Robert, who after awhile genuinely starts to worry about the impacts the dementors might be having on Caradoc. 

Remembers anniversaries; Caradoc, though he doesn’t say anything, there’s a definite rise in emotion during bed time that night. 

Brings up having kids; Neither. Both are content with just being together, besides. it’s not as if two blokes can exactly have children.

Drabble List!

Sleep: I’ll write a drabble of my character snuggling in bed with yours.

Robert groaned, half asleep, as Caradoc moved to get up. It was their deal. An unspoken one, but a deal all the same. They could stay in bed awhile after their little ‘meetings’, long enough for a drink, to catch their breaths, and relax enough before parting ways. It was sensible, really. Probably dangerous to apparate away with an accelerated heart rate, and all. 

There’d only really been one problem with this logic. 

Each time it happened, Robert wanted Caradoc to leave less and less. Nevermind the dilemma that came with the fact that Caradoc was the only person on the planet Robert had ever hooked up with consistently. Even Kat, who’d been his number one until recently, was never this frequent. 

In fact, Robert hadn’t even thought of genuinely trying to get with anyone else in almost two months. 

“Ten more minutes,” Robert mumbled, arm wrapping to pull Caradoc closer. He didn’t budge a single bit when the other male grunted, his hand moving to Robert’s arm as if to pull him away. “Ten minutes won’t kill you,” he huffed, pressing a kiss to Caradoc’s shoulder. Too familiar. Too comfortable. But he’d be damned if he could make himself stop. 

“You said five, five minutes ago,” Caradoc reminded him. Although his voice was its usual stoic tone, Robert imagined he heard a bit of reluctance there. That maybe he wanted to stay too. He’d scoffed at every excuse Robert ever made, yet Robert was fairly sure he liked the fact that he was willing to come up with so many on the fly. 

“And now I’m saying ten minutes now,” Robert mumbled, sinking his teeth gently into the other males collarbone, moving his leg to tangle more with Caradoc, wanting to anchor him there. “Where else’ve you got to be at this hour? Might even be safer here, no chance’ve walkin’ in on Fenwick and Withey,” he half teased.” 

“I’m not staying.” The proclamation was weak, even to Robert. Yet, still, he wished he would. 

“Ten minutes,” Robert pressed, looking into Caradoc’s eyes, almost pleadingly. 

With a heavy sigh, Caradoc rolled his eyes. “Ten minutes.” 

Ten minutes to find another excuse.
