possibly controversial disability community opinion: long-term caregivers should be considered somewhat part of the disability community and i'm kind of tired of excluding caregivers from discussions about ableism and systemic issues when caregivers also get the short end of the stick right alongside us every. single. time.
"some caregivers are ableist and caregiving doesn't inherently make you a good person" and "caregivers are regularly affected by ableism and systemic issues" are two things that are both true.
How to comfort your sad little one! ˙◠˙
🌧 Let them let it out, let them cry, let them whine about it, let them know their feelings are okay and you care about them. be there for them, that's what's the most important. 🌧 Get their favourite stuffies and blankies, aka comfort items for them 🌧 Get their favourite snack if you have it around! 🌧 If your little one wants (always ask beforehand!) give them a cuddle 🌧 Put on their favourite TV show, or play their favourite game together! 🌧 if you can, try and give them advice, or just reassuring words and comfort 🌧 When they calm down, ask them if they want to do anything special. 🌧 Recommend a nap time, naps help a lot when sad. 🌧 Tell them a story to distract themselves 🌧 Use grounding exercises (name 5 things in the room, breathing exercises) 🌧 and last and most important. be patient and don't rush them to explain why they are sad, don't raise your voice and yell, make them feel loved.

carer who constantly comforts their little by letting them cry instead of telling them to stop and reassures them that it's okay to cry and to be emotional over little things

I want to see more fanfics where caregivers are shown where they get tired and have feelings aswell as the regressor they’re caring for—without them wanting to punish their regressor 24/7 for some reason or clearly disliking the regressor they’re caring for.
Extra points if the fanfic includes a very fussy regressor, and a caregiver trying their best to help and naturally getting exhausted themselves and both the regressor and the caregiver has to come together and communicate in a healthy way—that validates both of their sides and feelings. <3
