a giant compared to most of my local jumpers, Carrhotus xanthogramma is no less skittish, and if anything the frustration of losing a critter is much greater when they're above average sized as opposed to a speck. luckily, this one delayed her parkour slightly to let me get a quick look and some shots

this Carrhotus xanthogramma, probably unaware that she was sitting relatively still out in the open, was not feeling particularly sociable, so she immediately hid under a leaf when i got close. some uncomfortable stretching on my part allowed me to get this bonus upside down angle before she realized she needed a better hideout and disappeared forever

Jumping spider staring upwards.
September is the breeding season for some ants. For the last couple of days I’ve been seeing nuptial flights in Tokyo. Winged females and males disperse, mate and start a new colony. This poor queen ant was caught by a jumping spider before shedding its wings.
