ever since hawkeye got back from the emergency vet, bj has been hissing at him and avoiding him. apparently that’s not an uncommon reaction when one cat goes to the vet and the other doesn’t—bj is smelling hawkeye but not recognizing the odor—but it’s breaking my heart.
the internet says i should separate them for a few days but i can’t really do that in my apartment.
luckily there’s been no violence and bj is mostly keeping to himself. he seems to maybe be getting less hissy but maybe that’s just wishful thinking.
hawkeye is doing fine otherwise. just sitting on my desk next to me and messing around with things. very normal. (and normally very annoying but i’m so happy he’s doing it today!)
he took his meds (probiotics) pretty well today but it was the first time. i find that the first 5-ish times are the hardest because the cat is still innovating new ways to avoid the meds. the first time isn’t as bad because they don’t know it’ll be a repeat thing. luckily they don’t taste as bad as gizmos prozac.
also we mentioned in passing our trials and tribulations giving gizmo his meds, and the vet nurse recommended trying marshmallow flavored prozac. we currently use a fish flavor but apparently cats like sweet flavors. i always thought those weird sweet flavors were for dogs but apparently they’re for cats! who knew!
