Weekend Reading Recs
Hey! Been a while since I did one of these. Here are things I’ve read recently that I felt like sharing.
1) Held Together by Spiderwebs by TunaFishChris
Summary: Steve is not coping well in the twenty-first century. At all. Three months after the Chitauri invasion, he decides he's had enough. But just as he's about to end it all, he runs into the new hero in town.
My take: My weekend reading recs are usually fun, but this isn’t as big a deviation as it appears. It’s serious--Steve is suicidal at the beginning--but it’s not dark, if that makes sense. It’s a settling-into-the-future fic that also fits into the larger category of Avengers Family. It just starts from an extra-grim place.
Plus, it has a really good (presumably pre-actual-Spidey-in-the-MCU) Spider-Man. Next work in the series is good too, if you like the characterizations established in this one.
2) Midnight Confessions by msermesth
Summary: In order to infiltrate SHIELD in 1970, Tony and Steve need three things--1. Some clothes 2. A plan 3. A grasp of the unresolved sexual tension between them
My take: Fun little story about the heist-y-est part of the Time Heist. Steve and Tony, figuring out how to be friends again in the 70s. In which both parties are mentally going, “I acknowledge that there is sexual tension, but given that it’s really inconvenient sexual tension, I’ve elected not to act on it.” Enjoyable banter and characterization.
3) Give Me Just A Little More Time by Robin_tCJ
Summary: In Endgame, we saw Steve and Tony go back to 1970 to collect the tesseract and more Pym particles. Tony has a nice moment with his dad, they break into SHIELD/Camp Lehigh in Wheaton, NJ, and they manage to collect said tesseract and a few vials of Pym particles. Then the scene changes and they move on to the next thing. What they didn’t show us in Endgame is that Hank Pym had not yet perfected his Pym particles, and when Steve and Tony try to get back to 2023, it doesn’t work. And they’re trapped in the 70s.
My take: ....In which they’re stuck in the 70s for longer than one night, Tony and Pepper are friendly co-parents but not romantically involved, and they do do something about the sexual tension.

Throw Me (A Cat Toy) by Quarra, RemingtonFae
forget the summary, this is just me rambling now: I’ve rec’d the first one in this series before. Recently found the sequel. It’s so funny, guys, and just like the first one, it’s so funny and then there are serious moments of consideration and gentleness and then it’s hysterical.
Bucky gets cat ears.
And a tail.
Floofy Buckitty! And of course Loki is entirely sympathetic and doesn’t find this situation at all amusing, and Peter does not want to pet Bucky or the radioactive cat that gave him cat ears. Nope. No one wants to cuddle the Winter Snow Leopard. Not at all. He’s not cute. He’s deadly.
