Oddly enough, Clem had never considered this. He should have, of course he should have, but he had not. When the pirates had offered him his freedom -- from the navy, from the Crown, from society at large -- he’d grabbed it with both hands without another look back, but now, hearing a voice that was infamous yet barely more than a faint memory, he was forced to acknowledge that the past was never in the past. It was, in fact, right here in Port Royal, just waiting for him to come closer.
Clearing his throat, he did just that, saying over her shoulder: “Fancy meeting you here.” He had considered walking away but decided against it. There was something uniquely intriguing about tempting fate. “Colour me surprised. I didn’t think I’d see you again after our little stint together two years ago. Certainly not here, of all places. What brings you to Port Royal, Shepard?”
