Iroh watched her for a moment longer than he probably should have. He’d seen that look in @ceruleanbender's eyes before. Like the tide had gone out inside her and left her standing in the sand. Her gaze seemed unfocused, like her thoughts were somewhere distant.
He shifted a little closer, careful not to crowd her space.
“Hey,” he said gently. “Do you want some company? Or… maybe to talk about whatever’s on your mind?”
"Bumi, I will never understand how you weren't rolling in dates. I feel like so many overlooked you. I see you though. I see your beautiful heart, and I love seeing you be so unbothered by things. Gosh it makes me jealous."
@ceruleanbender
● — || @lastairmaster sent : The chair had practically swallowed him whole, its cushions deep and warm, the fabric soft enough to coax him toward sleep without much effort. Aang let his head rest back, eyelids growing heavier with each slow rise and fall of the tiny weight on his chest. Bumi’s breaths came in the gentlest puffs, barely disturbing the folds of Aang’s tunic, his tiny hands curled in sleep-wrinkled fists against his father’s ribs. The warmth between them seeped into Aang’s bones. He could feel the steady thump of his baby's heartbeat.
Outside, the world could spin on without him; here, the air was still, scented faintly of milk and something sweet from Bumi’s skin. Aang’s lips curved in the faintest smile as he let go, surrendering to the pull of rest. The chair held them both, and in that moment, he couldn’t imagine a safer place for either of them to be.
● — || 𝐈𝐓 𝐇𝐀𝐃 𝐒𝐓𝐈𝐋𝐋 𝐍𝐎𝐓 𝐅𝐔𝐋𝐋𝐘 𝐒𝐄𝐓 𝐈𝐍 𝐓𝐎 𝐊𝐀𝐓𝐀𝐑𝐀 that she and Aang were parents . When they first met all those years ago , she [ [ never ] ] thought they would get to this point . It had nothing to do with Aang , and everything to do with how the world was when she was growing up . At many points during the war , she feared that a future was beyond her fingertips . Now ? She couldn't imagine a [ [ different ] ] future than the one she had . She had a child with the love of her life . It hardly felt real . When she was little , her mom always told her that she'd fall in love , get married , and have a child of her own when she was ready . It sounded like a [ [ dream ] ] ; and now , that dream was the sweetest reality . She fell in love with a boy who made sure that his entire world was safe , and married the man who gave her that world back in every morning kiss by the sunrise , every time he wrapped his arms around her and she could feel his biceps tighten , and every time he told her that he loved her .
He was her [ [ everything ] ] , and now their world was just a little bigger .
Aang had offered to take Bumi off her hands for a short while so that she could rest . She needed it , more than she could express , but Aang was able to tell without her having to utter a word . He had tucked her into their bed , kissed her sweetly and assured her that he was going to be alright , just a few moments before she had drifted to sleep . It wasn't for a few hours before Katara's stirred in their bed . Her left hand curled by her nose as she started to wake up . Half - lidded eyes looked at the space next to her , it was empty . She scrunched her nose , then slowly pushed herself up on the bed with a tired groan .
❝ Aakuluk ? ❞ Katara called softly , as she moved the sheets aside and let her feet touch the cold floor . Her fingers [ [ curled ] ] around the edge of the bed as she steadied herself . It had only been a week since their little polar pup was born , and she still felt like she could sleep for [ [ centuries ] ] . She threaded her left hand through her curls to brush them from her face before standing fully . She carefully walked through their home , eyes peeled for her favorite people . When she found them , curled up in a chair and both asleep like the world didn't matter , Katara's heart settled with a love unlike any other . They looked so [ [ peaceful ] ] .
She leaned against the doorframe , smile [ [ drawn ] ] to her lips like sunlight over the horizon . Her arms loosely folded over her chest , right hand toying with her lips as tears lined her eyes -- tears of happiness , as the spirit of life wrapped around her heart . Her little family was [ [ perfect ] ] . From the way that Aang's arms remained taught as they held their son with utmost care , even in rest . To the way little Bumi's hand curled into the blood orange fabric of Aang's tunic while he dreamed something kind . She could only wonder if this was what her mom felt the first time she watched their dad hold Sokka , and a handful of years later , then hold her in the same manner .
They live in you . . .
This was when it clicked that she was a [ [ mom ] ] . She had been so scared to bring someone into the world -- so many questions [ [ plagued ] ] her mind the day that Aang and her had talked about having children : what if one of them didn't come home ? what if they lost them before they were born ? What if the world hurt their children like it had them ? What if she wasn't going to be a good mom after all ? What if they weren't ready ? Each question she threw out , Aang had answers to . He was ready , and silenced those doubts and concerns one by one . Not only did he do it with the wisdom of the Avatar , but with the love of a husband who was [ [ ready ] ] to build a world with the woman he loved . At the end of it all , she couldn't imagine anything more [ [ wonderful ] ] than calling Aang her ilak , and the father of her children .
Quietly , Katara pushed herself off the doorframe and strolled closer to Aang while she wiped a few stray tears away . Once she was close enough , Katara placed her hands on either side of Aang's face so that she could hold his head steady as she tenderly kissed his forehead , his right cheek , followed by his left cheek , then his lips , all in care to gently stir him awake .
❝ Come on , Aakuluk . Let's go to bed . ❞ She whispered , once his summer - breeze eyes met hers , ❝ I have a soft pillow with your name on it . ❞ And her favorite pillow -- his chest , just over his heartbeat -- had [ [ her ] ] name on it . The back of her fingertips brushed against his cheek . She gave him one last kiss of his lips , then drew back to look at little Bumi . The mess of curls on his head that looked like her own , and the way he slept so soundly that it made the world stall . Carefully , she pulled him from Aang's arms , and held him to her chest . She felt him squirm in her touch , but all she could do was smile as his pale blue eyes looked up at her like she was Heaven's light . She could see herself in them , and the warmth he carried , but she could also see Aang's spirit . In every breath he took , and the way his lips [ [ naturally ] ] held a smile . . .
In your reflection . . .
-- He was theirs .
❝ Shhh , Kuluk . I'm here . I'll always be here . ❞ She assured her son as she cradled him close to her heart . Her thumb brushed against her son's cheek like it was made of glass , as she looked down lovingly at the little miracle she and Aang had brought into the world . Everything felt [ [ right ] ] , and she would always thank Aang for making this moment possible .
@ceruleanbender started following you!
"Hello. Hope the day is treating you well."
Continued from: Ila sat on the island’s rock formation, staring out over what appeared to be an infinity of open water beneath the night sky. The almost-full moon shone down on the undulating waves that softly brushed against the rocks. It was a quiet night, and she enjoyed spending it alone. City folk didn’t appreciate the peace and quiet that the ocean had to offer tonight. No. The hustling and bustling was more to their liking. They were so out of touch—or perhaps she was... Aunt Kya, on the other hand, was different too; just like her and Gran Gran, she loved the wide expanse that connected each continent. No matter what, there was always a mystery lurking beneath the surface. It fascinated her more than the spirit world ever had. When she noticed her aunt approaching her, Ila hugged her knees and smiled at her. “Oh no! You found me,” she joked for a moment. In truth, during her time at Temple Island as a child, Ila found solace in the darkness that hid her tears from prying eyes. Nobody really came down here. “I find the ocean always mysterious,” she replied to her aunt. “If I could, I’d like to live down there,” she continued and laughed at the idea. It was quite silly. Still, she meant every word of it. “Why don’t you join me and enjoy this moment together?”
@ceruleanbender
Kya had always appreciated the beauty of the water. Perhaps part of it was due to her waterbending abilities and that adding to her feelings of connection to it. No matter the reasons, she had always loved watching the waves, especially on those overwhelming days. Her brothers never really seemed to get it, at least she didn't feel they did. Thankfully, Kya never really minded being different.
She could see parts of herself in Ila, which had made it somewhat easy for her to guess where to find her niece. Kya smiled softly at Ila's joke before joking back, "I've always been good at hide-and-seek. I think I always used to win~"
Kya glanced out to the ocean for a moment before returning her attention to Ila, "It is rather mysterious. Sometimes it's so calm and other times it's so ferocious..." Sure, you could expect certain behavior in stormy conditions, but there were sometimes that it almost just seemed like nature itself was angry with how the waves moved. It was always intriguing to her, even if it was something that could seem so simple to others.
"I'm not sure, I'd like to live down there..." She wasn't really sure she'd ever be happy settling down in any one area for too long. "But, I'd love to explore it."
"I'd love to!" At the invitation to join, Kya stepped closer and took a seat next to her niece. "It's a good night to be out here." The weather felt nice, much nicer than some of the snowy nights she spent out in her childhood watching the water.
