okay no offense but i feel like a lot of people focus on The Scarf as like omg he never gave it back she wants it back where is it now?? but i always interpreted it as like, he has a piece of her that she can never get back, she gave so much and as time goes on she can forget him, and she can heal but he will always have that piece of her. kind of like with you all over me, the feeling of the wine stained dress she can’t wear anymore. especially since she says the scarf reminds him of innocence. so much youthfulness and over romanticized daydreams that were all lost. it symbolizing a deep running hurt, something that seems insignificant to him, something that is probably just sitting in a drawer forgotten. she gave so much and he didn’t. the one sidedness of it all. it just hurts. it was never about the scarf, it’s just a small picture of what their relationship was like, and i think taylor so beautifully illustrates heartbreak in ways like that, how it’s the small things that stick with you.
