Day 6: Newspaper & Confusion

Day 1: Secret

Set in Chambers of Secrets. Ginny tells Percy (and Oliver by extension) her secret about Tom’s diary.

Merlin, Ginny couldn’t sleep. She kept tossing and turning and she knows her dormmates must hate her, but she can’t help it. She had this terrible secret, and she could get into a lot of trouble. She just didn’t know how to fix it. She had no idea what to do and this situation was completely over her head. How does one tell someone there’s a scary voice in her head, and she thinks she’s the one who's causing all those people to be in a deep sleep? She doesn’t remember doing it, but she thinks something is wrong with her.

What to do, what to do? Think Ginny. Mom and Dad will kill you. Bill and Charlie are too far away to Owl and get a response back. The twins will just laugh at you. Ron’s barely older than you, and seems to get into trouble without you adding more to it. Percy will worry, but try to help. Yes! She can go to Percy! He’ll know just what to do.

Ginny remembered when she was younger, and was scared of the dark and always had nightmares. Every single time she would just go to Percy and he would somehow always know and let her crawl into his bed to sleep. He would hold her and tell her everything was going to be okay before kissing her forehead and telling her sweet dreams. That’s all she needs. For her big brother to hold her and tell her it’s just a nightmare!

Ginny nodded determinedly, before crawling out of her bed. She quietly tipped toed while leaving her room. Once she was in the clear she tried to quietly run down the stairs, getting to the large common area. She stopped in front of the boy’s side of the dorm. It’s for boys only, will she get in trouble for going to her brother? Hopefully if someone snitches her out, Professor McGonagall will understand.

Ginny went up the stairs quickly, her eyes scanning for the 6th year dorm. She managed to make the large 6 above the door and she ran to the door. She ran inside and slammed the door by accident. Ginny jumped in fear, and dread filled throughout her body, thinking if she rudely barged in Percy wouldn’t help her. She froze but didn’t see any movement that indicated that he woke up. Okay, good. She can still tell her secret.

She walked across the large room to hopefully his bed. She opens the curtains around his bed, hoping to see her brother there. She does see Percy, his bright red curls are easy to see even in the dark, but also she sees Oliver? Percy is by the wall, while Oliver is on the outside of the bed. She can hear Percy’s small huffs while Oliver is snoring. Did he have a nightmare too? Ginny huffed, well he’s her older brother first he’ll have to find another one.

Ginny figured it didn’t matter, she was already scared about telling her secret. Oliver can hear it too, she guesses. She crawls over Oliver to squish herself in between the two, and she shoves herself into Percy’s side trying to make herself smaller than she already is.

Ginny hears Percy gasp and grip her tightly. She gives out a tiny yelp and that seems to wake him up. Percy’s eyes jump open and he squints in the dark at her direction. His eyes are fuzzy but she can tell when he seems to finally notice her because his eyes widened just a bit before he squeezed her again. It was gentle this time.

“Ginny? Hey? Are you okay? What’s wrong? Whatever it is, it’s going to be okay.” Percy said concern etched in his voice. He started to shift and Ginny cried out, but Percy just said “hey, sorry, I’m just adjusting.” He proceeded to move her closer to his side, and wrapped his arms around her holding her tightly. She buried herself as deep as she could into his side, not knowing she wanted a hug so badly that she’s afraid that if Percy let go, something inside her would shatter.

Ginny noticed Percy tried to read her face in the dark but she wouldn’t let him, she kept her head firmly in his side. She also didn’t know why he didn’t turn the light on. Oliver seemed to be able to sleep through anything.

Percy tried again, “Hey, Ginny, are you okay? Was it a bad dream?”

Ginny started to tear up at the concern in the questions and started to sniffle. She started to gently cry into Percy’s side.

Percy gasped before moving his hand to slap Oliver awake. Oliver abruptly stopped snoring, before he gasped awake. He turned over and noticed a smaller crying Weasley in his bed while the taller one was waving at him to turn the lamp on. Oliver reaches over to the nightstand, and turns the lamp on. Oliver’s eyes squinted harshly at the light before he grabbed Percy’s glasses and handed them over. Percy was rubbing his eyes, then looked up and noticed the glasses. He gave a small, grateful smile at him, before putting them on. The wars Oliver would start just to have Percy do that small smile.

Percy put the glasses on and pushed them up his nose before looking at Ginny in his arms, she was trembling and Percy had no idea why. All he knew was that he had to find out. Oliver moved a little closer, caging her in, but Ginny didn’t seem to notice or mind.

Percy waited patiently, willing to wait all night for Ginny to find the right words to tell him what was wrong.

Ginny sniffles seemed to quiet down before Percy tried once again. Ginny felt like a mess, Percy had to ask how she was three times and she didn’t even answer.

She tried to get the words out but she couldn’t. Oh Merlin, she feels like throwing up. Now that she finally had the courage to say something, she starts to clam up. She’s in Gryffindor for Merlin’s sake. Maybe the voice in her head was right, she wasn’t meant for this house after all.

She wanted to cry harder but she really wanted to tell him what was happening to her. She desperately needed someone to tell her everything was going to be okay, and that he could fix it.

Ginny felt like an overboiled cauldron, and everything just spilled out. She told about the diary and how all she wanted was a friend. The friend seemed nice at first, but he was with her all the time. How it started to become scary. She was scared all the time, the voice whispering to her, telling her to do awful things. She even mentioned how she thinks she’s the one who puts the students in a deep sleep. She can’t remember anything, but it has to be her right? She says there is something wrong with her.

Once the terrible story was done she looked up at Percy. His face was pale, and he looked like he wasn’t breathing. So she looked at Oliver, who seemed to be the same shade. She started to panic, and tried to wriggle out but Percy just held on tighter.

“Ginny, Ginny, please stay with me. I- I am sorry that I didn’t notice anything sooner, please forgive me.” Percy stuttered out. “I just, give me a moment that’s a lot to process.”

“You don’t believe me do you?” Ginny asked quietly, “That's okay, I wouldn’t believe my story either.”

“I didn’t say that,” Percy frowned a little. He didn’t want her to put words in his mouth. “It’s just a lot. Trust me Ginny, give me a minute please.”

Percy couldn’t understand. This was something only in stories. Ginny seemed cursed or something, definitely more up Bill’s sleeve. Any professor would be able to see what was wrong or at least have a clearer picture. Professor Dumbledore is Order of Merlin, First Class, and he definitely has the majority of the pieces that could help out Ginny. An adult would be much better. What was Percy going to do?

Percy decided it didn’t matter, he could think of all the what ifs and who would be better for this situation till the end of time. But Ginny came to him for help and he will help her with everything he has.

“Ginny, I’m not sure what’s happening to you, but I believe you. I’m going to do everything in my power to find out and help you I promise,” Percy said.

Ginny didn’t know why but she bursted into tears. Hearing Percy say he believes her and is going to help her gave her such a huge relief. She somehow felt lighter already.

Another set of arms wrapped around and she squeezed those pairs of arms too. “I’ll help Perce with whatever is happening to you Ginny,” Oliver said.

Ginny couldn’t help but grin, Oliver was such a good friend to both of them. She felt so safe in both their arms, like nothing bad is going to get her.

Ginny snuggled in deeper, feeling safer and happier already.

Percy and Oliver looked over her head, with concern on both of their features. Both boys started thinking, where to start, and what would be the best way to help Ginny?

Ginny didn’t see them give each other glances. But she did have a question for them. “Percy, why is Oliver in your bed?”

Percy seemed to choke on air which turned into a cough.

“Actually, Percy is in my bed,” Oliver said with a clear grin in his voice.

“Ollie! Not helping!” Percy shouted frantically.

“It’s the truth! Do you want me to lie to her?” Oliver asked.

“To my baby sister, yes! I don’t want to explain why we are in the same bed!”

“Is it because you get nightmares Oliver? It’s okay, I understand.” Ginny said innocently.

“Yup, terrible nightmares,” Oliver said solemnly.

Percy slaps his arm. “Shut up, I swear. Let’s just go to sleep.” He takes off his glasses and hands them to Oliver, who takes them silently and puts them on the nightstand. He turns off the lamp and joins the snuggle pile.

Percy gives Ginny a kiss on the forehead and whispers, “everything is going to be okay. Try and get a good night's sleep.”

Ginny closes her eyes, knowing she can believe him. This was the first night of rest she had for a long time.
