They had also held a press conference the day before, attended only by journalists hand-picked by Pepper, where Steve laid out his entire story in what Peter called PG-13 detail, starting with his arrest following he and Tony’s anniversary dinner and ending when he was finally released from the Atlanta hospital to come home. Images that Tony recorded from his HUD along with several documents that Bruce had been able to capture from the prison’s computer systems were also released to a few selected news stations, further corroborating the growing pile of evidence against not only many of the men and women holding high positions in the government and other agencies, but also various news outlets.
It was a start, at least. But Steve knew he wouldn’t be able to truly rest until every last single HYDRA agent had been flushed out from their mole tunnels and arrested.
But unfortunately, at the moment he still needed to figure out a way to get to the bathroom and back without causing a scene.
Slowly, Steve pushed himself up to his feet, using the headboard as leverage as he placed all of his weight on his right foot. The cast on his left foot was massive, and had to weigh at least ten kilograms with how much hardware was poking out of it. The surgeon had explained that he’d been required to use several of what he called medical pins in order to hold Steve’s bones in place while they healed, which were now sticking out of the bright blue plaster in such a way that it made Steve feel sick to his stomach to even look at it. And not to mention the constant prickly feeling he’d had in the foot ever since the surgery from the bones knitting themselves back together. Steve had always hated that tingly, pins-and-needles feeling.
Although apparently not enough to stop breaking his goddamn bones, as Tony would say.
Keeping his right hand flat against the bed, Steve released the headboard and began hopping towards the bathroom, stopping at the end of the bed to balance himself on the footboard. The bathroom was still about ten paces away with nothing more for him to grab onto, but once he was able to get to the doorway he would hopefully be okay.
However, for all of Steve’s meticulous planning, he realised only three hops in that he’d neglected to take into account the soreness in his right hip caused by him trying to compensate for the extra weight on his left foot. He paused in the very centre of the room, already dripping with sweat as he rested just the tip of his left toes against the floor, trying to take just a touch of weight off his right leg, and not even a second later found himself flat on his face, completely stunned, with his entire left side screaming in protest.
“What the—?” Steve heard from the bed as he attempted to roll over, his damaged ribs making him feel every single centimetre of movement. He refused to look as Tony sat up and poked his head over the end of the bed, already bracing himself for the lecture he was about to get.
“Jesus Christ, Steve, what the hell are you doing?” Tony demanded as he knelt down next to him, bleary-eyed and disheveled. He slid his arms underneath Steve’s shoulders, trying to hoist him back up. “You trying to give me a heart attack or something?”
Steve glowered as he looked away, too embarrassed to even meet Tony’s eyes even as his entire left side was now throbbing with every beat of his pounding heart.
“I just—I just needed to pee.”
“Okay. And you didn’t wake me up… why, exactly?”
“I didn’t want to. You were sleeping.”
To his credit Tony did at least make an attempt to hide his eyeroll, although it was not entirely successful. “Ah huh. And how’d that turn out for ya there, hmm?”
“Tony—”
“No, don’t you be ‘Tony-ing’ me right now,” he snapped. “You know damn well that I’d much rather be woken up with a kiss and a soft, ‘hey sweetheart, can you help me hop on over to the bathroom?’ or something like that as opposed to you smacking your face into the floor ‘cause you're too damn stubborn to admit that you need me to help you.”
The full chapter will post on Monday, January 27th 😊
Five Favourite Works of mine from the past year
I was tagged by @srebrnafh thank you so much! 💖
The rules of this circulating challenge are as follows: it’s time to love yourselves! choose your 5 favourite works you created in the past year (fics, art, edits, etc) and link them below to reflect on the amazing things you’ve brought into the world. tag as many writers/artists/etc as you want (fan or original) so we can spread the love and link each other to awesome works!
Oh boy... here we go...
In no particular order:
1. The Crystal Path
This was my first tentative foray in the Reylo fandom, and my attempt to soothe my tattered soul over the loss of yet another tormented character that I adored. I was overwhelmed with how positively it was received 💖.
Post-TROS. Following the battle on Exegol, Ben and Rey attempt to live out their lives on Naboo until Ben is persuaded to do the unthinkable: turn himself over to the Resistance for trial.
2. Chasing Demons
This is the sequel to my very first superfamily story Pieces of Echoes, and one in which I explored Steve’s struggle with PTSD. Although this wasn’t as popular as Pieces, I actually am more proud of this story, mainly because I haven’t seen as many stories that focus on Steve’s trauma and because it veers more from canon.
3. Pieces of Echoes
The very first of my superfamily stories, this is based on the premise that Steve was defrosted from the ice two years earlier than in canon and sent to recover Tony and Peter after they were captured in Afghanistan. I adore this story for many, many reasons, not the least of which I finally was able to use some characteristics from my beloved X-Men for the development of Peter’s powers.
4. What’s in a Name?
This is by far my post popular one-shot, and a story I wrote after several of my beloved readers requested more information on Peter as a baby in my Pieces-verse. This is my first choice of my stories to reread when I’m having a bad day 😊.
On the brink of self-destruction, Tony receives a life-altering phone call. He has a son.
5. Hope In Front of Me
The second of my Reylo fics, I wrote this to fill in some missing scenes from my story The Crystal Path or present scenes in the opposite’s POV. The two stories are meant to complement each other, and it concludes with the birth of Rey and Ben’s adorable son, whom they name after Ben’s good friend. Once again, it was pretty well-received 😊.
This was fun, thank you so much!
Tagging: @ephemeralstark @joyful-soul-collector @crownofstardustandbone @ferretshark @peterstarkss and anyone else who’d like to play 💖.
Scoop for Chasing Demons in Entertainment Weekly.
Ok, now I’m convinced. Rollins and Benson are dating, or at least one step away from it.
Chasing Demons
After 2 weeks of anticipation and worry over what the show was going to be like after the departure of Barba, I can happily say that I am overall pleased with this weeks episode.
First thought: Stone. So, I feel for Phillip since the whole fan base was so in love with Barba, and he has huge shoes to fill. I think the character is going to go through the typical “rough around the edges but eventually softens up because they realise the sensitivity of the cases.” He also has a load of daddy issues, and we’ll obviosuly be seeing some character development for this new character, which I personally am looking forward to as I hope the writers can shake it up a little bit.
Second Thought: Cassidy. I’m not going to say much on this. Just that I’ve never liked the character, nor did I ever feel he had any chemistry with Olivia. And the audience know he’s a hot head and a bit of a dick, but I feel that his confession at the end was a bit of a cop out, like we should just excuse the years of the character’s behaviour. I just feel a bit cheated as a viewer, and I don’t know if it was intended to be a twist or just something to help soften the character. I really don’t know. I suppose his goodbye to Liv was sort of sweet, but other than that I hope we do not see Brian Cassidy again.
Third Thought: Amanda Rollins. Amanda FUCKING Rollins. Absolute badass. Honestly she was on fire in this episode and literally felt like the only person making any sense. Kelli’s acting was superb in this episode. Finally, they’ve gave Amanda space to shine. There was so much passion and care in the scene where she was trying to get through to Liv. I could’ve physically applauded that performance. It was magnificent. More of Amanda and Liv having each other’s backs and being tough mumma’s thanks.
Final Thought: Not nearly enough Carisi or Fin, but I love protective, “I’ve been around the block a few times” Fin, so I cannot complain on this one. But we’ve all seen the promos for next week’s episode. My heart is going to be in pieces because Carisi is such a pure soul and he’s looks so torn in the next episode. So guess you’ll be hearing from me when my heart has been ripped from my chest and dragged through the mud.
