State Route 374, Chateaugay, New York.
A late-running son of the great Swaps, Chateaugay enjoyed his best success in his 3 year old season, winning the Kenucky Derby and Belmont Stakes, in addition to the Bluegrass Stakes and Jerome Handicap. His later career was hampered by injuries and he never recovered his 3 year old form. Chateaugay met with little success as a sire in the US, but became the first Derby winner to be shipped to Japan (the beginning of what I think is an unfortunate trend), and enjoyed better success. He died there in 1985 at the age of 25. He was Horse of the Year in 1956, and is an member of American racing's Hall of Fame.

Upper Chateaugay Lake: The Parsons’ 50-Year Camp Chronicle (1909–1959)
By Lance M. and Bertha W. Parsons This is 1959 and as we have had our camp 50 years, we write this that those who love the lake as we do may find some of it of interest. Years back the country west of Dannemora Mountain was called the Chateaugay Woods. There were no roads but a trail led over the mountain, thence to the foot of Chazy Lake and then about two miles to Bradley Road, then on to…
Members of the Kahnawà:ke Mohawk Territory acted early to halt a development on disputed territory in a nearby Montreal suburb.
Newly elected Kahnawà:ke Grand Chief Kahsennenhawe Sky-Deer said she is offering her full support to the effort, and that numerous letters sent to government officials have so far gone unanswered.
“We’ve been trying to get land back now in this community for years,” Sky-Deer told APTN News.
“It’s like, enough now. Take our concern, our grievance seriously. And if not, this is what happens – people end up taking action, because meetings and letters can only take you so far.”
“Three Escaped Convict Back In Clinton Prison,” Plattsburgh Sentinel. June 20, 1919. Page 01. --- Men Who Fled Prison Lumber Camp Caught Near Chateaugay Lake Last Night --- Fred Daniels and Howard Dafoe, two convicts who were working in the Clinton Prison lumber camp, escaped from the camp during the night, Monday or early Tuesday morning.
The two men were seen near Young’s at Chateaugay Lake, yesterday morning, and a posse composed of farmers and officers began a thorough search of the woods in the neighborhood.
The convicts managed to elude their pursuers until 10:30 o’clock last night when they were captured on the William Barroe’s place, just north of Oliver Young’s on Chateaugay Lake.
Daniels was sentenced from Hammond, N.Y. Dafoe’s home is at Canton. Merle Dewey, who escaped from the prison lumber camp on the night of June 12, was caught on Tuesday morning by James Weir of Clayburgh. Dewey is the man who took a chance on being shot by Al. King, who made an attempt to sudbue him with an empty shot gun.
