Mr Pietro Costante Cardin (2 July 1922 – 29 December 2020)
The French designer is know for his striking garments and space-age fashion, but his sculptural furniture and lighting works—not to mention his foray into otherworldly architecture—are deserving of their moment in the spotlight !
Entirely self-taught as he was with his fashion pursuits (not many other couturiers were able to draw, cut, sew, fit, and finish their own clothes as he was), Cardin translated his ideas from fabric into wood, lacquer, metal, and glass with his sculptural designs, either his own or pieces he worked closely with other designers to realize. He drew inspiration from nature, his pieces mimicking skies and landscapes.
Mr Pierre Cardin began fabricating his furniture designs in the 1970s, producing 150 different models, many of which have never been seen before.
