Queen B 2 thoughts

I have some thoughts about X and I’ve got no better place to ramble about them. Spoilers through chapter 13 of Queen B 2 below the cut.

I’ve been on the “X is Selene” train pretty much since we found out that she’s in the running for Apoidea. Everyone else in the running was given some sort of believable reason that they were being considered other than being X except for Selene. The charity event chapter made me even more sure, what with the “sabotage” of Selene’s event that was leagues tamer than those at Poppy’s or MC’s events and with the red herring of Liam’s event being untouched.

And then chapter 13 gives us this:

And funnily enough, this doesn’t make me any less sure that Selene is X. I’m now pretty convinced that Selene and Persephone Dalton are one and the same.

Now, part of this stems from the above-mentioned reasons why Selene’s a pretty obvious X candidate, as well as the fact that her character’s role in the story doesn’t really make a ton of sense if she isn’t X.

But part of it is also the fact that Persephone Dalton would most likely need to be posing as someone else to get even half of the dirt and info she’s got as X, as well as needing a better reason for this kind of revenge than someone who doesn’t even go to the school anymore would have.

So my current theory is this:

We know Persephone Dalton left Belvoire on bad terms before MC transferred in and we know that several members of the top 15 knew her personally.

It seems like the perfect act of revenge for her to return with a new appearance and a new identity as a transfer student who people would otherwise discount, all in order to bring down the system that screwed her over. It would probably make her even angrier that no one she knew before recognized her, even though she’s disguised.

And that’s how X is privy to the goings on of the most powerful students on campus without any characters suspecting her any more than, say, Liam.

Of course, I could still be wrong about all of this. If I am, I’m really curious what ends up happening with Selene because, to me at least, it feels like it’s all pointing to this outcome.
