According to a district attorney, the fatal shooting of a black man — seemingly videotaped in February and released online Tuesday by a local radio station host — will go to a grand jury in coastal Georgia, Ahmaud Arbery case.
Elements of the troubling video are aligned with a summary of one of those involved in the incident's shooting given to the police.
Ahmaud Arbery, 25, was jogging in a community outside of Brunswick on 23 February when he was chased down by a former police officer and his friend, authorities said. Gregory McMichael later told police he thought Arbery appeared like a wanted individual in a series of recent break-ins in the city, according to a Glynn County Police report.
Upon chasing Ahmaud Arbery away, McMichael told the police, Travis's son Arbery and McMichael argued over the shotgun from his wife. McMichael said there were two shots fired before Arbery dropped into the lane, the report said.
George Barnhill, one of the district attorneys who dismissed the case and read the autopsy report, wrote in a letter to the police that Ahmaud Arbery suffered three injuries during the gun battle.
In a news release on Tuesday, Tom Durden, the Atlantic Judicial Circuit district attorney, wrote that he plans to bring the case to the next available grand jury in Glynn County to determine whether charges are deserved for those involved in Arbery's death.
Because of the coronavirus outbreak, the Empaneling of grand juries is officially forbidden for courts.

Durden did not answer, but the NAACP local branch provided the document — classified as a press release — which corresponds to a statement that Durden gave The Atlanta Journal-Constitution.
In a statement, S. Lee Merritt, an attorney for the Arbery family, said that the two men who were involved in the chase "must be taken into custody pending their indictment."
Gov. Brian Kemp said Durden has been given support by the Georgia Bureau of Investigation for his investigation. "Georgians deserve answers," tweeted Kemp.
Kemp also retweeted the GBI's statement that Durden "formally requested the GBI to investigate the death of Ahmaud Arbery." State Attorney General Chris Carr said he was "deeply concerned" with the video and news coverage.

On Sunday, Wanda Cooper, Arbery's mother, informed that when the police informed her of the death of her son, she was told that her son was involved in a robbery and that there was a dispute between her son and the homeowner and a fight over a gun.
"He was not armed," stated Cooper. She said she never thought about jogging him because she said he did not bother anyone.
