Eames Lounge Chair and Ottoman reimagined as a stainless steel monument

Cheryl Ekstrom’s sculptural interpretation of the Eames Lounge Chair and Ottoman recasts a twentieth century archetype as a solid stainless steel object. Produced in 2007 with permission from the Eames Office, the piece fixes the familiar silhouette into a static, weight-laden presence that shifts the design from furniture into sculpture.

Created in an edition of five, the work has moved through private collections and gallery presentations, including exhibitions by @jfchenantiques. Its material density alters the reading of the original form, offering a meditation on permanence, authorship, and the cultural afterlife of Modernist design.
