Human capabilities to better “see & observe” socio-economic manipulations of all kinds are revealed by adopting systems knowledge or systemic insights. It hones our capacities to map problems in broader contexts, whilst teaching us how to relate to such “big-picture or rich-picture” data. Since the data is so large, pervasive and interrelated, it is less about crunching data, and how about developing patterns (see map is not the territory in previous blogs). The last few consecutive blogs discussed the “field-of-power” which represent the population of tools we can access, when trying to enrich ourselves & improve our lives, be as entrepreneurs, business, corporations, or our governments.
Each of the sub-systems (factors) that comprise the filed of power were also explained. For example economic capital refers to our ability to raise funds or having networks of access, able to assist in raising cash; whilst symbolic capital refer to those items society deem worthy, like say having a degree, or a medal of achievement, access to famous or public figures, as well as material objects like branded clothing, fancy homes, jewelry, cars, etc. Cultural capital in turn refer to the apparent or perceived values we tend to attach to different nations, like French wines, German engineering, Italian super cars, American fast-food chains, African poverty and the many things we have come to associate with nations. It is important to remember that these are all constructions of capital and/or power we are made to believe in as being absolute, how truthful or accurate it may be is irrelevant since these are global features ingrained into our global social memories (meme’s) which is a subject of future blogs. For now these systemic features combine to form our individual field-of-power, so in powering up your system, it is important to understand your own field of power. The extent of one’s perceived field-of-power is technically irrelevant in scientific terms, but socially it is represents a most powerful global meme, meaning the more we are perceived to have, the more socially prominent we become. The more prominent we become, the more access to opportunities we are exposed to, which allows us to grow our field-of-power even more. Once individuals understand their configurations, the ability to “amplify” it becomes important. Amplification is simply put a way of “advertising” aspects of our field-of-power, a term from Cybernetics (study of man & machine). Today we have many ways of amplification, like the Internet; local interest groups, global movements, marketing & advertising, etc. This in simple terms represents ways to “power-up” you system, and in doing this, begin your journey into learning and using global systems to obtain your objectives. These are the very same tools used by the most powerful corporations, governments and individuals, as such playing and engaging with your field-of-power allow each of us to developed creative ways of escaping poverty, oppression, subjugation, and setting us free to attain objectives that seem impossible.
