Claudia walked down the manor's hallway as she heard her servants whispering in the other room. Two household maids were chatting very suspiciously. She stood behind the slightly opened door and carefully listened.

"Don't you think we shall tell her?"

"No no he requested we should not and we shall respect that."

Just then Tanaka entered the room from another door behind them.

"What has happened ladies?"

"We can not tell you..." the blonde maid replied.

"Tell him what?" Claudia pushed the door open and crossed her arms.

"Madam! How long have you been behind there?!" the other maid asked terrified.

"Very long. What has happened I demand to know." Claudia was standing at the door way very fiercely.

"Tanaka you tell her!" the maids hid behind him.

"How should I tell her? I am as confused as she is!!!"

"Enough! Tell me." Claudia shouted and walked closer to them. The blonde maid managed to speak.

"Mister Undertaker is not well-" before she could finish her sentence Claudia's expression changed and she stormed out of the room.

"My lady wait!!! He does not want to see anyone!!!" the maids and Tanaka ran out of the room but couldn't keep up with her. Tanaka looked at them.

"Did he try to? Again?"

The maids nodded.

Claudia quickly walked from room to room calling his name opening doors here and there. She then reached a locked door at the end of the top floor's hallway. She knocked on it lightly. No answer. She knocked again.

"Open the door." she said softly yet demanding.

No answer again.

"Cedric open this door or I'll force it down."

Just then Tanaka appeared behind her.

"My lady," he showed her the keys.

She nodded and Tanaka opened the door.

"I'll be right behind this door if he shall hurt-"

"He will not hurt me Tanaka he is my husband." she entered the room closing the door behind her.

The room was dark as it was being used for storage. Claudia looked around the room that seemed empty but insanely messy with boxes everywhere. A second later she heard a dragging sound behind her.

"Cedric?" she said softly and turned to the corner she heard the noise from.

He was sat against the wall his head on his bend knees as his long silver hair covered most of his body. His scythe was layed next to him glowing slightly green.

Claudia could hear him murmuring as she stepped closer. She kneeled down right infront of him.

"Cedric what has happened you are scaring me," just then she noticed behind him papers and drawings. She could only make out some words.

Records... tied... souls... and drawings of bodies.

"What... are these...?" she asked.

"Don't look at them..." he raised his head. "It is not of importance. Did those chit-chatting maids tell you about me?"

"Don't blame them I overheard their conversation, now tell me what has happened."

She saw blood on his clothes and hands.

"Show me your hands is that blood?"

He nodded.

"What did you try to do?! Why is your scythe here?"

"I tried going to the Headquarters..."

"Why ever would you do that?! Look at you you are hurt I shall call for Tanaka."

"Claudia I am immortal..." he said "that is the problem," he murmured after.

Claudia stared at him she had never seen him like this.

"Someday you'll leave me like everyone else has and I'll be stuck here in this madness that I entrapped myself not a soul to speak to just hiding from those Grim Reapers that are so blinded by their gruesome work. Waiting waiting waiting I will be alone all alone do you understand you will be gone I won't be able to turn back time to save you no no I haven't figured it out yet I-" he stopped.

He looked at Claudia's terrified expression, just then did he realise he was holding her by her shoulders aggressively shaking her.

He let her go. His eyes were shedding tears, he was helpless all because he loved life.

"I am not going anywhere, I am safe as long as you are with me," she cupped his cheek and wiped a tear.

"Where are your glasses my dear you can't even see me!" she smiled.

"Over there..." he pointed at the middle of the room.

Claudia stood up and picked up his glasses, she then kneeled back down and helped him wear them back on.

"There you are, all handsome again. Come here let us sit here for a while."

Cedric was about to accept but then he recalled all the papers behind him on the wall. He didn't want to scare her more than he already had.

"No Claudia, let us go in another room...." he stood up.

Claudia stood up too and looked straight in his green eyes.

"Why ever did you go to the Headquarters?"

Cedric forced a grin "Oh forget it Countess,"

Tanaka knocked on the door before opening it, letting a ray of light enter the dark room.

"Is everything alright? Shall I prepare some tea?" he asked.

"Yes Tanaka tea would be perfect!" Claudia smiled as Tanaka bowed and closed the door.

Cedric looked down at Claudia with the same grin as before.

"Stop grinning Cedric, you know I can see its fake." Claudia held his hands as Cedric's expression changed.

"We will be alright my love." she pressed a soft kiss on his lips before the two of them exited the room.

However, idk if I have any new headcanons for them. 🤔 I guess I can restate some of them and go into a bit more detail here and there.

She was a willful, take charge kind of person and knew that getting involved with Undertaker could prove to be problematic.

He is actually a very serious person, but her humor got to him, and now that's why he craves laughter. It temporarily alleviates his sense of loss.

He was more worried about possible consequences than she was, and he kept giving her warnings... much like we've seen him warn our earl about protecting his soul. Like Vincent, she probably just did whatever she was going to do... and tried to plan/prepare for her own demise. Our earl has also largely been ignoring Undertaker's advice, but it's hard to take advice to protect your soul... when you already have a contract with a demon, and when you are already living on borrowed time.

She probably named the children, just like Rachel does. I suspect she chose those names as a subtle "giving the finger" to the crown. Rachel doesn't want "tedious" English names, but she could be making a political statement. Could be a similar situation for Claudia.

She and Undertaker could have had children as an "eff you" to the crown. Some way of fighting the system from within.

I doubt she and Undertaker/Cedric were ever married, so that would make their kids bastards, children born out of wedlock. Then to give them French names about being victorious and free? Oof 😅

Maybe they hoped to remove the Phantomhive family from service to the monarchy. But she fails when Vincent steps up to fill the vacancy. We still don't know how all that went down.

Do you think Undertaker ever saw Grelle and Madame Red together and felt reminded of himself and Cloudia? And perhaps remorse for what could easily happen between them?

People who don't believe in or even Hate the undertaker=cedric theory always have tow reasons, 1,they simp over ut so bad that they can't tolerate him having kids with another person 2, it will make him absurd, because love makes things cheap and not interesting, which I highly disagree with,because if there was anything ever between them I highly doubt it was lovey dovey and healthy, I mean we have ut who is a literal death God and I don't see him as a caring and gentle person like many do at all, and then we have claudia p ( I meant c'mon she is the grandmother of ciel and the mother of vincent, just imagine how deranged and manipulative she herself was) so I really think the relationship between tham was fascinating although I don't think we will ever get a flashback of them because it's not relevant to the current story... just wanted to know ur opinion on this.

Some UT x Claudia/Cloudia thoughts

Well, anon, it's an interesting take, and I agree with certain elements of it, but I have to disagree with the rest.

Some fans might simp over him so much they can't stand the thought of him canonically with anyone, and some might find the "I did it for love" motive to be too cliché and boring. But there are other reasons I've seen for why detractors or critics of the theory don't like it.

Many of them can't handle the idea that a reaper could or would mate with a human. I believe it's entirely possible within the Kuroverse; it's just forbidden. Well, when you are a reaper who has deserted your post, why would you care anymore about the rules? In fact, I think he could have his own motives for mating with humans... like giving his human offspring traits that are supposed to be reserved for reapers. Or even with the intention of decreasing the number of new reapers (if they are reborn to reaper couples, as I theorize). A relatively small chunk of the fandom doesn't want Undertaker to be Vincent's father... because they ship those two guys together. Though, finding out they are father and son might not entirely stop them. 😑

It's possible that a relationship between Undertaker and Claudia/Cloudia wouldn't be the healthiest thing for either of them... but I can totally see it being lovey dovey 🥰. Don't forget that well-written characters aren't so one-sided, and they are allowed to be -- for example -- manipulative and cruel and loving and generous, depending on the circumstances. Undertaker can be gentle and caring; he might have been even more so before she died. Grandma P might have been strong willed and possessing of an evil streak a mile wide, but she also might have fallen head over heels for the most attractive male character in the series, according to Yana-san herself. Don't forget that despite him being cruel and manipulative as queen's watchdog, Vincent does truly love his family -- something else Yana-san has previously said. Why wouldn't people like Undertaker and Claudia/Cloudia produce children like Vincent and Francis/Frances? They seem exactly like the sort of offspring I'd imagine from a pairing like that. They might have had children together for more than one reason, but I believe love is one of them. An act of rebellion might be another. 😏

I sure expect at least one flashback of them together, since it's totally relevant to what's going on. Remember when Sebastian asks our earl just how far back they have to follow the series of events to figure out which culprits to target for revenge? Well, I think our earl's problems largely started with that pairing. Or, more specifically, started with people who didn't appreciate that pairing. I think it's why she died when (and however) she did. I think it adds to the various reasons why the Phantomhives were attacked in 1885. Forget the fans who don't like the pairing; there must be someone in the story that doesn't like it, either. Like the queen... or John Brown....

When Sebastian asks Undertaker what his relationship to the Phantomhive family is, he says he'll leave it up to imagination. But, eventually, I expect him to explain it anyway. And that's when we'd likely get at least a panel or two of them together. We could even get several chapters of them together in a long flashback.

I find it kinda funny when people who don't like the whole "Undertaker is Cedric" theory try to say that it "would not suit Yana's writing style at all!" cause like... have we... been reading the same manga? 💀 I am myself not completely sold on it but I can admit that it's EXACTLY the type of shit Yana loves to write I mean c'mon 😭 Destructive love is an overarching theme of this entire story, almost every arc has some sort of "the things we do for love" subplot, not to mention that it's pretty evident that Yana draws a lot of her inspiration from the classic gothic romance. Regardless if the theory is true or not, it absolutely DOES suit her writing style. Kinda the same goes for the argument "well it would be too obvious and on the nose" my siblings in Christ ya'll already said this about the twin theory

But no 💩 about the other part. A LOT of the people railing against 2CT said it was too obvious a choice to be the one she goes with.

I will direct readers back to my old post about the historical Ronald Knox. I would like to update that post, but not right now. Regardless of the updates I'd like to make, that post is still pretty much dead-on. Yana-san enjoys breaking ALL of his commandments of detective fiction. I wrote it in February of 2016, but I already assumed a very specific version of 2CT to be true (and it is canon now). 😆

Those "Ten Commandments" are also mentioned here, among other clichés or tropes she's used... and references... that work in the series. I also have several posts about literary archetypes. Heck, I have a huge theory about the entire framework being based on a game. 😆 It's not about the originality of the basic ideas, it's about how original you can be in the presentation. These well-worn ideas are only tired if they are written in a tired way.

I think I've answered something like this before, but even I would have trouble finding it now. Short answer: Because any more children would have been a bigger risk for them.

I have a theory that she only had one pregnancy (or at least only one that came to full term with live births) and that Francis/Frances is actually a younger fraternal twin.

I recall once explaining that carrying the children of a reaper would be difficult for various reasons, like 1. The queen (or someone) finding out and wanting her dead, 2. It might be physically difficult to carry the baby (or babies) to full term, and 3. There might be taboo requirements for actually giving birth to the children of a reaper -- say, that it can only happen on a Friday the 13th... which is definitely when Vincent was born.

You could try searching my blog for #thoth, because a lot of my theory on this is based on Thoth as a reference (one of many) for Undertaker.

I'd love to get a flashback of Undertaker the day Vincent and Francis/Frances were born (if they are twins), because it might be a lot like how Vincent and Tanaka walk into the room and see Rachel with twins. The shock and awe and pride and delight! But, in Undertaker's case, also probably fear. Because what happens now? Must they hide the truth? Probably.

And, after that ordeal, they make sure to not have any more children....

I'm not understanding the queen finding out that Claudia being romantically involved with Undertaker AKA Cedric K. Ross was a bad thing. Were they not in the same society class?

Undertaker's social status

They were not in the same class at all, since Undertaker is a reaper and therefore completely outside the Victorian class system. If he tried to fake being in the upper class, let alone a noble, he would have to dress as he does for the Weston arc.

You'd think that undertakers would be respected in Victorian society, considering how much people typically paid for their services, but they were not. Quite the opposite. Undertakers were considered one of the lowest positions, simply because they were dealing with dead bodies, which was considered somewhat dignified but extremely gross and dangerous. Many resented undertakers because of the high costs of funeral services, but that wasn't really the undertakers' fault. People had come to expect lavish services because it was fashionable... and that is a demand for expensive goods and services, not price gouging.

If you want to point a finger at the person who made lavish funerals so darn fashionable? Point at Queen Victoria. She set the goal, other affluent people made it trend, and the lower classes tried their best to achieve similar results.

Anyway, Undertaker wasn't truly in the same class as the Phantomhives, even if he put on a nice suit and fashionable hat and fancy tie.

But that's not the main reason why the queen wouldn't approve of them being together. John Brown (if no one else) would have informed her that Undertaker is a grim reaper, and the queen wouldn't have approved of that. If you ever watched s2 of the anime, notice that Claude convinces Alois that Sebastian was the one to destroy his village (when it was really Hannah). A possible parallel in manga canon would be that John Brown has Queen Victoria convinced that Undertaker had something to do with Prince Albert's death... or any other number of scenarios that the queen has accepted as fact. Maybe the queen thinks Undertaker collected Albert's soul (even though he wasn't an active reaper by then). Or perhaps she blames Undertaker for what another reaper has done simply because she thinks of him as a representative of the entire reaper organization, and he was unable to retrieve Albert's soul/revive him. Ok, this is getting into major crack theory territory now.

But I do believe that Queen Victoria knows Undertaker is a grim reaper, and that she specifically doesn't want her watchdog to get involved with such entities. Let alone to have children with one. And I believe that it has something to do with whatever John Brown has made her believe. I just don't have the details about that... yet.

I also don't know for sure what Cedric's last name is, but considering Cedric of Rotherwood from Ivanhoe, I tend to think it'll turn out to be more like Rosewood or Rosedale, not Ross. And, based on William T. Spears' "T" coming from a staff nickname for him -- Takaeda, meaning "high branches", a reference to his death scythe -- I think Cedric's "K" might come from an un-divulged (for obvious reasons) staff nickname for Undertaker -- Kama, simply meaning "scythe".
